Year 9

This Week in Yr 9

Week 9 has certainly been an epic one! Yr 9 have completed a range of interesting assessments, run in the Cross Country Carnival and participated in a range of cocurricular activities with energy and flair! Students have also spent their Tutor Time completing their Approaches to Learning. This is an excellent way for students to visualise their goals in action, and to carefully consider their effort across all of their subjects.

The Addams Family Musical

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and production staff who worked exceptionally hard to stage The Addams Family at The Concourse last week! Your dedication, hard work, and creativity amalgamated to create an exceptional performance. The level of talent and professionalism was outstanding – the vocal range, dynamic acting and technical prowess were all on show and created an unforgettable experience for the audience.

In particular to the cast and crew of Year 9, we are so proud of the commitment and passion that you brought to the musical. You have truly set the bar high for future productions, and we know that you will continue to excel in all of your future endeavours!

The Fall Forward Award

Every second week at the 7-9 Student Led Assembly, the Fall Forward Award is given to students who have had great personal achievement, shown amazing engagement in the school community, or just simply stood out in a way that deserves recognition. Bonus points to those who have experienced some sort of disappointment and have grown from/overcame these challenges. The actual prize: an amazing gold Fall Forward-inspired badge that students can wear everywhere on their blazers. Students also get a certificate and a chocolate prize.

This week, the student who will be receiving this award has stepped up in the Musical Production department. Despite having little experience with lighting, she challenged herself to be spotlight leader – something she wasn’t necessarily super comfortable with. In the end, however, she did a fantastic job, as everyone who went to the Musical would know, and is extremely well deserving of this award. Congratulations to Katie Budden!

Spotlight on Visual Arts

In Visual Arts our Yr 9 students are developing their understanding of sculptural practice. They are currently engaged in reductive carving of soap stone using a variety of hand tools to create a stylised representation of the human form.

Epilepsy Awareness and Fundraiser at Battle of the Bands Monday Night!

Last Sunday, 26 March, was Epilepsy Awareness Day. The day was created to increase the public’s understanding of what happens in the brain for someone with Epilepsy and to eliminate the fear and stigma surrounding it.

As we have several students at Redlands with Epilepsy, Year 11 will be hosting a Bake Sale on Monday evening during Battle of the Bands to shine a light on the bravery and resilience of people with Epilepsy as it can be quite scary living with the fear and anxiety around epileptic seizures. All proceeds will be donated to Epilepsy Australia. The aim of this initiative is to reduce the stigma surrounding Epilepsy and to educate people on how they can help someone having a seizure and maybe save someone’s life.

On Monday afternoon from 5pm to 6pm, there will be a Bake Sale in the John Roberts Foyer before the Battle of the Bands. Money from this Bake Sale will go towards Epilepsy Australia. Please come by Monday evening to purchase a baked item and to support students at the Battle of the Bands! Alongside the Bake Sale, Year 11 students Halcyon Hunt, Lara Wilson and Winter Penney will also be giving out free temporary tattoos, magnets, and more!

To either donate or further explore the cause, please visit here.
