Isobel Anderson Awards

Massive congratulations to Year 9 Dante Minassian who delivered a stunning performance at the Isobel Anderson Awards on Sunday, fighting off many talented dancers for 2nd place.

This event was a great way to break the ice for Dante’s upcoming trip to Tampa, Florida for the Finals of the Youth America Grand Prix, where he will be performing the James solo from La Sylphide, coached by Martin James. Martin, a former principal dancer with Royal New Zealand Ballet, English National Ballet and Royal Danish Ballet, is the perfect mentor as he danced this role on the world stage and directed the Australian Ballet Company Production in 2013.  Dante’s Contemporary solo has been created by award winning Choreographer Paul Malek, Artistic Director of Transit Dance. We wish him the very best for this incredible experience.

Isobel Anderson Awards

Yr 6 students Cameron Lloyd and Sophia Moriarty had a wonderful time dancing in the Musical Theatre performance at the Isobel Anderson Awards on Sunday.

New for the Academy | Students of the Month

Alyssa Tinetti (Year 12)
Alyssa Tinetti (Year 12)

My name is Alyssa Tinetti and I am Dance Captain for 2023. I am excited to introduce our new initiative, “Students of the Month”

What is Students of the Month?

  • ‘Students of the Month’ is a new initiative organised by your dance captain, Alyssa Tinetti. This initiative will recognise students in Year Group categories who have been working really hard during dance classes and have been benefiting the dance community.

How are the students determined?

  • The students are selected through conversations with teachers, recommendations from fellow students, and the criteria:
    • Effort in class
    • Behaviour in class
    • Punctuality and attendance
    • Behaviour within the dance community

What do Students of the Month receive?

  • This award is an opportunity for students to be recognised by staff and students in the Academy, as well as celebrated with the wider Redlands community.
  • The students will be celebrated in Note Day, as well as have their name and photo featured on the pin board outside of the dance office in Parkes Hall.
  • Additionally, each student’s Year Advisor will be contacted about the student’s achievement.

Students of the Month for April

Years 7-8

Year 7 student Phoebe Sun

Phoebe Sun (Year 7)
Phoebe Sun (Year 7)

Phoebe Sun joined Redlands at the start of this year, and has worked very hard in her classes. Phoebe is a focused student who gives every class 110%.

Recently, Phoebe Sun made her Redlands performance debut in The Addams Family Musical. Phoebe attended every rehearsal with a smile on her face, and remembered all her choreography. She was definitely a an important member of the dance ensemble, which is impressive considering she was the only Year 7 student selected for this group.

We can’t wait to see what Phoebe does in her future with Redlands!

Years 9-10

Year 9 student Dante Minassian!

Dante Minassian (Year 9)
Dante Minassian (Year 9)

Dante Minassian has flourished in the Redlands community, working hard in every class he has. Dante’s hard-working mindset and never-say-never attitude, as well as his attention in class, has helped him become an amazing dancer.

This month, Dante will represent Australia and Redlands at the YAGP Finals in Tampa, Florida. The Youth American Grand Prix international ballet competition is a renowned competition for ballet dancers, and Dante’s participation in the Finals is an incredible achievement.

We wish Dante all the best for this competition and all future endeavours!

Years 11-12

Year 12 student Josie Simpson!

Josie Simpson (Year 12)
Josie Simpson (Year 12)

You may know Josie from being an amazing School Captain, but she has also been a committed member of the Redlands Ballet and Dance Academy since 2018.

This year, Josie has worked incredibly hard – balancing her School Captain duties, Year 12 schoolwork while still attending RAD ballet classes twice a week and SJPG rehearsals. Josie’s positive attitude is invaluable to the dance community; she always makes everyone feel included and is the perfect role model for younger students.

Thank you, Josie, for being so amazing!

And those are our three students of the month! Make sure you congratulate them when you see them, and check out their photos on the dance board!
