Secondary Sport

What a start to the winter season, last week saw the all the conditions play havoc with sports trainings, with the rains washing out Tuesday training and then the extreme heat on Thursday putting a stop to the outdoor sports!  We are hoping the weather holds off to provide us with a much-needed winter season after the last few years!

A huge congratulations to our rowers over the weekend who braved the heat out at the respective Girls and Boys NSW Head of the River Regatta, it was great to see the so many parents and students there to support each regatta, James has included a breakdown of results below.

Rowing

Last weekend saw the final regatta of the season being the NSW Girls and Boys Head of the River where Redlands ended the season with what was this highest medal haul ever of 10 crew medals!

Our Girls started the weekend on Saturday winning 1 silver and 5 bronze medals while the boys continued the success on Sunday winning another 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

It was an incredibly gratifying experience to follow all of our crews across the weekend watching and cheering for them from start to finish. I could not have been prouder of our Redlands crews who made the brave decision to go to a new level, to dig a little deeper and show real grit and resilience in the closing stages of racing when there is no doubt they would have liked to stop. In many cases they pushed themselves into medal winning positions. If there is no more important lesson to be taken from sport, it is this experience of never giving up and to try and hard as you can!

A huge thank you to our wonderful parents and the Friends of Rowing for providing the catering and great support across the weekend. The cheers and cowbell really does provide an extra lift!

Foot of the River

FOOT OF THE RIVER (Parent Rowing): Now that the season is drawing to a close, it is our families’ opportunity to have a turn at rowing with the Foot of the River commencing in Week 2 of Term 2. This is our major fundraiser with the aim to purchase a new Eight oared boat for the 2023-2024 season. Parents can form a crew of four with their family, friends, work mates or anyone that they can find, learn how to row being coached by our rowing coaches twice a week for four weeks and conclude with a mini regatta held on Sun 28th May racing over a 500m course at Davidson Park.
