International Women’s Day Recap

Last Friday, Yr 11 students dedicated the cohort assembly to International Women’s Day. A group of students and a Yr 11 Tutor shared their views on gender equality, feminism, stories of female role models in their lives and what we can do as a cohort to support equality for all. The theme of all messages revolved around everyone needing to take small and consistent actions to make the biggest impact. Everyone was asked to recognise and thank the females in their lives, to speak equally and in a supportive manner to peers and to call out inappropriate comments. The impact of peers speaking directly to their peers is stronger than any guest speaker. Redlands Hall was silent as students spoke from their hearts.

Thank you to the students who jumped in to this opportunity and for continuing the discussion on embracing equality: Grace Durrant, Daisy Thomas, Max Stepniak, Hugo Scott, Marcus Cooper-Hor, Apoorv Pilani, Kane Thompson, Hallie Hunt, Scarlett Thorp, Ashley Stapleton and Celine Patel. Thank you to Ms Rosanna Peterson, Yr 11 CY Tutor, for also sharing her role models, her observations as a teacher and her advice for supporting one another.

History Excursion

Last Friday, our Yr 11 Ancient History cohort visited the Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney. Under the guidance of Dr Thanos and other museum staff, our students were offered the wonderful opportunity to learn about the ancient world in the context of material culture and working through and handling ancient material. Unique and enriching, the experience was greatly appreciated by our students who are now setting their sights towards the HSC. The students in attendance displayed exemplary behaviour and a stellar performance during the visit to the museum. Dr Thanos acknowledged and commended students for their erudite approach to the questions they raised and the analytical approaches they engaged in throughout the visit.

HSC and Careers Expo

On Thursday 1 June there will be a half day optional excursion to the HSC and Careers Expo. The exhibitors attending are included here.

What is the HSC and Careers Expo?

The Expo provides resources and information for tertiary courses, career and employment options, the HSC, study strategies, gap years and more. It is an opportunity for you to speak directly to:

  • universities, TAFE colleges and training providers
  • organisations with apprenticeship information and opportunities
  • organisations with employment opportunities
  • organisations with cadetship opportunities
  • providers of international exchange and GAP year programs

You can ask questions that will help inform your choices about your path after school.

Applications to attend this event will be reviewed and students will be notified by the end of Term 1. Students have been sent further information for applying to attend this event. All applications must be submitted by Friday 24 March.
