Thank you to all our new ‘Friends of Music’ for joining the buzz at our 2023 launch meeting last Thursday evening! It’s been another busy week in Music with all ensembles in full swing; Rock Bands & Unplugged artists are preparing auditions for Battle of the Bands; and all the ensembles of the Jazz Program winding up to perform at the Autumn Fair in a few weeks’ time.  It was also a joy to see and hear from some of our Alumni from 2022 providing our background Jazz at the Twilight Drinks. How proud we are to see the journey through to (and beyond) the finish line!

This week we also officially welcomed Dr Jeremy Eskenazi to our team, commencing on Tuesday as our Resident Associate Artist. Great things are in store in this space, in support of student performance attainment and growth as young music-makers.

JUNIOR CAMPUS CURRICULAR MUSIC

Focus on Transition Gold!

This week in Music, Transition Gold has been letting their light shine with their performance in Prep Assembly of the song Taba Naba from the Torres Strait Islands. In music lessons this week, they also learnt the song Clapping Game – I Let Her Go from Trinidad/Tobago.

Here the students enjoyed clapping on the word ‘Go’ and dancing with their partner but on the last ‘Go’ they had to turn to their new partner. Well done Transition Gold for your great learning and performance this week. Keep shining!

Prep Music Orientation Session

A reminder that we are hosting an information session for Prep parents in our community to learn more about the music happenings on the Junior Campus in two weeks’ time. We warmly invite you to the session on Thursday 16 March 8.30am in the Prep Music Room (Level 2 – above Prep Reception).

Yr 12 Encore Excursion

On Monday, our Yr 12 IB Music & HSC Music 1 & 2 students ventured to the Opera House for the enriching experience that is ENCORE –  the showcase of NESA’s best of the best musical performances and compositions from 2022.

Attendance & Pockets

Thank you to those who have learnt and applied the courtesy of notifying your teachers should you look to be absent from a forthcoming rehearsal commitment. It helps your ensemble work around your absence, and means you can be kept in the loop if there is anything you need to catch up on.

As attendance before and after school is a matter of duty of care, a reminder that if you are unable to attend an ensemble due to illness or some other unavoidable circumstance, parents/care givers need to email juniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au or seniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au respectively to communicate this.  

Merits, Blazer Pockets, Colours & Half-Colours are awarded later in the year, and these require 80% as a minimum attendance bar.

Junior Voices Auditions (Yrs 3-6)

Auditions for Junior Voices will commence tomorrow in Junior Choir time. If you are also in the Under 11 and Under 12 High Jump Trials then please complete your trial first then come to your Junior Voices Audition in P1.3. Let’s hear you shine!

EXTRACURRICULAR MUSIC

Private Tuition & Extra Classes!

We are delighted that our Extracurricular program is brimming, with our largest ever enrolment and demand for these offerings. Over 480 private lessons are currently taking place across the school each week, as students take advantage of the expertise of our carefully-curated team of Music Specialists. 

Though enrolments are now closed for Term One, we are still accepting applications, though these private lessons will commence in Term Two.

Junior Rock Band Callout!

Are you a Yr 5 or 6 student looking to join a rock band? We are currently accepting expressions of interest for Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar and Drum Kit. If interested please complete the Extracurricular Enrolment form on PULSE.

Redlands App?

Have you downloaded the Redlands App? It’s not just for parents. Senior Students too are being encouraged to download the App so they too can manage their private lessons and ensemble attendance. Reach out to helpdesk@redlands.nsw.edu.au if you need any assistance with the App.

MUSIC ENRICHMENT & PERFORMANCE

Battle of the Bands Auditions close tomorrow

Auditions are closing tomorrow – Friday 3 March – via iLearn. The epic annual Battle of the Bands on Senior Campus is set to take place on Monday 3 April!  For Rock Bands – this is an incredible opportunity for our talented contemporary solo and duo acts and singer-songwriters to showcase their skills and compete against their peers in a thrilling ‘gig format’.

The theme for all entries this year is ‘Australian Music’! Looking forward to reviewing all entries and announcing our finalists in the weeks ahead!

Red Factor Auditions – Next Week!

Can you feel the excitement building? Auditions for Red Factor will be held next week in P1.1 at Lunchtime. Please come with your lunch at the beginning of lunchtime on your day to audition. Costumes are NOT required for auditions, and students must have any audio tracks on a USB shared with Junior Music.

Results will be released by the end of Week 7 via email. 

AMEB Examinations

The Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) exam registrations are now open and exams will take place between 26 August and 23 September.  Enrolment forms for both Practical Examinations and for students in our Musicianship classes will be available on Redlands Pulse and are linked below.
