Head of Junior School
Visiting Speaker – Emma Colenbrander (Redlander, Class of 2006)
On Monday, we were thrilled to welcome Emma Colenbrander (Redlander, Class of 2006) to back to speak to our Yr 5 students about her experience working in environmental conservation.
Last year, Emma was one of the School’s inaugural Redlander Alumni Awards winners but was unable to attend the ceremony in person last year as she currently lives in the UK. Hence, it was a joy for the School to present her award in person as well.
Emma is a social entrepreneur, intrapreneur and international development professional. She is founder and Head of the Global Distributors Collective, an alliance over 200 companies around the world that distribute beneficial products, such as solar lights, clean cook stoves and water filters, to people living in poverty. Prior to that, Emma co-founded and was an Executive Director at Pollinate Group, a social business that brings clean energy solutions to urban slums in India. With a mission statement focused on improving the lives of India’s urban poor, Pollinate Group has reached 735,000 people to date and has received numerous awards including the UN Momentum for Change Award and the Australian Social Enterprise ‘One to Watch’ Award.
Emma’s visit was part of the students’ work entitled, Our Fragile Environment, which focuses on the importance of protecting our planet and the impact of our actions. The students were highly engaged and enthusiastic throughout the presentation, and they had the opportunity to ask questions and learn from a real-life expert in the field. It was a fantastic learning experience, and we are grateful to our alumni for sharing their knowledge with us.
Emma felt very honoured to be invited back to speak to students and was blown away with all the developments that have taken place, not just in facilities, but in teaching and learning, which she saw and was part of this week.
Parent Seminar
Our counselling team were delighted to extend a warm welcome to many of our Junior Campus families who joined our first parent seminar of 2023. The session focused on Sleep and Healthy Routines and the presentation slides have been uploaded to the Junior School Pulse page for parent reference.

2023 Mosman Youth Awards in Literature
The Mosman Youth Awards in Literature competition, organised by Mosman Library Service and sponsored by local organisations, has been developed to encourage students to write their own original stories or poems on their chosen topics.
Over many years, Redlands students have enjoyed participation and success in this annual literary challenge, a competition in prose and poetry writing.
Now in its 31st year, I share this year’s details for parents and students to consider and class teachers will also encouraging student involvement with this literary opportunity ahead of the closing date of 31 May. Please note that entry forms must be signed by a parent or guardian and not a teacher if the entrant is under 18 years of age.

No Playing on Equipment After School

Please can I remind all parents that as per the clear signage, the various play equipment and oval are out of bounds for students after school, unless in a supervised activity with Redlands staff such as our After School Care program or one of our Sports offerings.
We have had concerns raised of students playing on the equipment or running around the campus unsupervised whilst parents are chatting and there has also been challenges distinguishing between these students and those registered for our After School Care program. Thank you for your immediate attention and I will also remind students about this in our next assembly.
OOSH Autumn Vacation Care
Our Vacation Care program will be available from Monday 6 March to all families to book via HubHello. Parents will be able to download the weekly activities and book their children on the days they would like to attend.
Our Autumn Holidays will focus on cultural experiences from different countries and backgrounds and families will be welcome to join in some of the activities with us. More information coming soon!
