Senior Instrumental Competition
The Music Department invites you to the Senior Instrumental Competition on Monday 22 October commencing at 6.00pm in the Edwards Auditorium. To book your preferred seating for the competition please click here.
Our Guest adjudicator for the competition will be Ms Anna McMichael, Co-Artistic Director of Tyalgum Music Festival. Anna has performed at many European music festivals over her 17 years living in Europe, with a number of Dutch chamber ensembles and toured extensively with groups such as the London Sinfonietta, Amsterdam Sinfonietta Chamber Orchestra, Nieuw Ensemble, ASKO/Schoenbergensemble, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and recorded for a number of European labels.
In Australia, Anna has performed at the Canberra International Music Festival as guest artist, been a soloist and member of the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, guest Associate Concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Concertmaster of both Orchestra Victoria and Auckland Philharmonia. She has also performed with Ensemble Offspring, Pinchgut Opera, Omega Ensemble and is a member of Ironwood. Anna has tutored at ANAM, the Canberra School of Music and appeared with the Australian World Orchestra since 2011. She has performed recitals at festivals such as Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, Mona Foma Festival and the Peninsula Music Festival. Anna has recorded for the Tall Poppies label together with pianist Tamara Anna Cislowska, a solo release on the Dutch label, Unsounds, and recorded with the pianist, Daniel de Borah for Tall Poppies.
Music Captains 2018-2019
The Music Department would like to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of 2018 Music Captains Stella Everett (Captain of Choirs), Michelle Li (Captain of Strings), Marvin Ma (Captain of Bands) and James Nemec (Captain of Small Ensembles). These four students, along with many of our other Yr 12 musicians, have been pro-active leaders within their respective ensembles and have provided excellent mentorship to many students throughout this year. In building on the positive influence and contributions these Music Captains have made to the Ensembles Program, the Music Department is pleased to announce and welcome our new Music Captains and leaders who will continue to guide musicians and play a key role in leading the Cocurricular Music Ensembles Programs into 2019.
Captain of Bands – Tara Sahagian
Captain of Bands is associated with ensembles spanning from Yrs 3 to 12. These ensembles include Training Band, Junior Concert Band, Intermediate Concert Band and Advanced Concert Band.
Captain of Strings – Dan Feng Zhao
Captain of Strings is associated with ensembles spanning from Kindergarten to Yr 12. These ensembles include Preparatory Strings, Junior Strings, Intermediate Strings, Advanced Strings, String Orchestra and Chamber Ensembles.
Captain of Choirs – Matilda Williams
Captain of Choirs is associated with ensembles spanning from Kindergarten to Yr 12. These ensembles include Preparatory Choir, Junior Choir, Junior Voices, Intermediate Choir, Advanced Choir & Jazz Vocal Ensemble.
Captain of Small Ensembles – Ilann Labouze
Captain of Small Ensembles is associated with ensembles spanning from Yrs 3 to 12. These ensembles include Junior Guitar Ensemble, Intermediate Guitar Ensemble, Advanced Guitar Ensemble, Junior Jazz Band, Intermediate Jazz Band and Stage Band.
Private Music Studio Concerts
Series 2
The Music Department will be hosting the Semester 2 Private Music Studio Concerts throughout this term. These concerts commence from Week 4 and Music tutors will be in contact with students and parents to notify them of their individual Studio Concert date, time and location.

Ensemble Participation, Attendance and Punctuality at Rehearsals
Many ensembles are currently rehearsing and preparing repertoire for end of year events. A reminder that regular, punctual attendance at all Music Ensemble rehearsals is imperative as students are underway in preparing for end of year events. All ensembles commenced Monday 15 October (Week 1, Term 4). In the event of absence, please email juniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au for Junior Campus Ensembles and seniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au for Secondary Campus Ensembles.
Music Community Working Bee
The Friends of Music Committee would like to invite members of the school community to a Working Bee on Saturday 20 October (9.00am-1.00pm) in assisting the Music Department as they prepare scores for relocation into the new Music Library storage units. The focus of this community morning is to assist with the sorting, organising, cataloguing and shelving of all Music Ensemble scores and ongoing data entry in updating our Music Library spreadsheets.
Morning Tea and refreshments will be provided at approximately 11.00am and this event will also be a wonderful time for parents to meet the 2018 Friends of Music Committee. If you would like to join us for the full four hours or even part thereof in the John Roberts Centre, please RSVP to the Friends of Music President Mrs Felicity Gates.
Senior Campus
Years 8-10 Music Elective Soiree Program
Parents and friends are invited to the Yrs 8-10 Music Elective Soiree’s this term, in celebrating the achievements of students enrolled in the Music Curriculum program. This evening concert represents the practical assessment component of the students’ performance studies. Refer to the upcoming events schedule on Redlands Pulse for dates, times and locations and please mark these dates in your calendar.

Musicianship Classes
Students who are currently learning an instrument and who would like to further extend their knowledge of Music Theory are encouraged to join the Musicianship class on Tuesday mornings (7.30-8.15am).
