Yr 12 Celebrate their last ever Senior School Swimming Carnival

Well done to all of Yr 12 for their participation at their final ever Swimming Carnival. Yr 12 really enjoyed their novelty lap of the pool with many students floating on rafts, tires and giant swans down each lane of the 50m pool at the Sydney Aquatic Centre.

It was also pleasing to see our House Captains in action and flying the flag for their perspective houses. Congratulations to the McDouall House Captains, Lachlan Binnekamp and Bella Havryk who led their house to victory, winning the Swimming Carnival House Shield for the first time since 2015!

Special mention to the Yr 12 students and Tutors who competed in the Staff Vs Student relays! It was a very close battle with Yr 12 coming out as champions!

HSC Core Session 1

The wonderful and knowledgeable Ms Lucy Benjamin led the first HSC Core Session with Yr 12 this week. In her session with Yr 12 she covered the following:

What’s important in Term 1?  Visiting the Career Advisers, the importance of having a study schedule, the importance of Academic Honesty, and activating NESA accounts to access HSC Exam timetables.

Better Together – Students will have control over their individual marks and success, but everyone will score more, if everyone scores more.

Stop, Collaborate and Listen – The importance of shared drives so everyone can see everyone’s study and revision notes, having a tutor buddy, advantages of studying in pairs of groups and writing responses and completing papers together.

The importance of Grit – Grit is more important to success than intelligence and talent. Grit is the ability to get up and when we fall to overcome defeat.

Growth Mindset – Grit and Growth – Two key ingredients for success.

Time Management – Write a timetable that works for you, don’t cram, avoid studying one subject for a long period of time, create a distraction-free setting and organising study spaces such as removing clutter which adds to stress and anxiety.

Focused Study – Take notes, process the notes, make connections, summarise and apply new learning.
