Year 11
Happy Holidays!
As we approach the end of a big year, Ms El Martin and I would like to wish our Yr 11 students and families a safe, relaxing and joyful Summer holiday. Our Year 11 students have really stepped it up this term, in all aspects of school life, and have transitioned so well to their senior studies. I would like to pass on a big thank our Year 11 Tutors for all their hard work, looking after their Tutor Groups and caring for each and every individual student. We bid farewell, to three Year 11 Tutors this term including Ms Ellie Dalton who will be moving to the UK, Ms Lily Peschardt, who will be going on Maternity Leave, and Mr Jimmy Tod-Hill who will be undertaking his role as the Year 7 Year Adviser for 2023. These wonderful Tutors will be farewelled at the Year 11 Gratitude Morning Tea next Monday during Tutor Time. I would also like to pass on my sincere thank you to all the Year 11 Subject Teachers who have supported Year 11 over the last twelve months and to our Dean of HSC, Ms Lucy Benjamin, Dean of IB, Mr Darren Taylor, Career Advisers, Ms Clare Hurst and Ms Justine Fowler, and Dean of Students, Ms Marita Jansons for all their efforts and support for Year 11 throughout 2022.
I ask that the cohort has a restful break and puts time aside for family and friends over the Summer break, and ensure that this is balanced with academic studies, so that when Year 12 returns in the new year, they are feeling refreshed and ready to take on their final year.
Have a wonderful Summer break and thank you for all your support throughout 2022.

We Stand with Ukraine – Reflection by Bella Havryk
Seb Tang, Charlotte Scamps, Dan Close and I were privileged to attend the We Stand with Ukraine event at the Isabel Menton Theatre on Monday afternoon, which was Ukraine Dignity and Freedom Day.
Ukrainian bandura musician Larysa Kovalchuk performed several beautiful cultural pieces. Several speakers each provided invaluable insight and new perspectives on the war still raging in Ukraine.
Andrew Mencinsky, the Vice President of the Ukrainian Council of NSW spoke of the horrors continuing to be endured by those in Ukraine. The harrowing details he shared really emphasised the ongoing terrible reality of this situation.
Another of the panel speakers, Maria Mykytiuk shared her heartbreaking experiences as a Ukrainian refugee. The stories she shared were deeply moving, especially for me as someone with a Ukrainian heritage. Her unimaginable struggles and traumatic experiences really drove home that this war is still being fought now – people are still without homes, electricity, food and even family. Civilians continue to witness friends being killed, unsure of whether their families are alive or where they are.
Her words were a powerful reminder to keep the people of Ukraine in our hearts, minds and prayers.
We are fortunately physically distant and only see the war on the news, but these atrocities are the everyday harsh reality for millions.
Councillor James Spenceley’s story was an especially inspiring example of ways we can all get involved and support Ukraine. An Australian-born man with a Ukrainian wife, he founded Aus Ukraine Aid. He has been sourcing second-hand ambulances and raising funds for medical supplies which he drives in convoys across Ukraine, dropping off the much-needed supplies as he travels.
We cannot stop living our lives, but there is so much more we can do.
Yr 12 Life Skills: Car Mechanics Basics
A big thank you to Jake Hazell who lead demonstrations on the basics of car mechanics during Tutor Time over the last week. Jake who is studying Automotive Studies at TAFE, showed year 12, how to change a tire, check oil, coolant, tire pressure and gave many tips; particularly regarding car safety. Year 12, found Jake’s demonstration very interesting and useful and will now know how to confidently change a flat tire! A shout out also to Joe Griffith who lent Jake his car for the demonstrations and assisted Jake with his demonstration.
M’Lop Tapang Cambodia Iced Chocolate Fundraiser

Collectively, the group has raised almost $1000.00 which will go towards providing food at recess and lunch for the students who attend M’Lop Tapang.
