Yr 10 Science Symposium

All students in Yr 10 completed a Student Research Project. Students then captured their project on a poster and displayed them for other students, teachers and judges. The teachers selected the best from their class and displayed these projects separately for further judging. Criteria for judging included: communication and presentation, originality of idea and Scientific methodology. Well done to all students completing this task. The topics were incredibly diverse, unique and interesting. Learning was very evident among the students. Many thanks to the Science Department for all of their efforts in supporting these students.

Congratulations to the winners:

  • Best Science Methodology: Launch angle – Conor Petersen
  • Originality and Effort: Password hacking – Aaron Beder
  • Best Presentation: Basketball shot – James Stuart
  • Overall Winner: Effects of temperature on microbial presence – Johann Cheah

Yr 10 Camp Reflections continued…

“Camp was… an experience to say the least. Coming to Redlands with no prior camping experience, I asked around for as much information as I could possibly get to prepare myself for what I thought was going to be an atrocious week. As it came around the corner, I got dropped off, walked to the undercroft super tired, carrying my heavy backpack filled with things to help me live as lavish of a life as I possibly could while in the woods. Surprisingly, before I even knew it, I was back on the bus heading to school. The whole week had gone by so quickly. Maybe it was because of how tired I was from the activities. Maybe it was because of how much fun it really ended up being. Either way, it was quite the opposite of an atrocious week. I remember having the most fun on the 4th day on which my group had to canoe across the entire lake from one campsite to the other – a hefty 24km trip in small wooden canoes carrying heavy backpacks and coolers filled with food, fighting against the wind and praying that the boat didn’t sink. It felt like it was straight out of a movie. Across the entire lake, my partner and I sang songs while watching the sunrise in front of us while drifting across the water feeling the cold morning wind crashing onto our faces and looking out onto the horizon, a vast body of water with the sun reflecting the water’s various shades of blue. It was completely surreal. It was most definitely a bizarre experience to truly remember and treasure for the rest of my life.”  – Apoorv Pilani

Yr 10 Geography Excursion  – Manly Snorkel

Three classes of Geography elective students engaged in an excursion to Manly Snorkel at Shelly Beach this week. Students took turns moving between three activities: snorkel and learning about the various sea-life in the area, completing a beach clean-up for building awareness and respect for the habitat and community and a walking track while testing their Geography knowledge by observing the waves, water level and coastline. They also enjoyed lunch while a member of council from Cabbage Tree Bay provided information the area, how to get involved as a volunteer and why preserving the area is so important.

The Redlands Ballet and Dance Academy End of Year Performance

Last Friday evening, the Ballet and Dance Academy students performed beautifully and impressed the crowd with the number of dance items, intricate choreography and incredible execution. Students have worked incredibly hard to prepare for this event and showcase their diligence and commitment to the Dance Program throughout the year. Well done to all students involved!
