Lismore Northern Rivers Christmas Appeal

For most in our community, Christmas is a time for joy and celebration. But for many in Lismore, who lost homes and businesses in the recent flooding and are in the early stages of a costly disaster recovery, this holiday season will be one of hardship. This term, we are calling on the generosity of our Redlands community to support the residents of Lismore. We are asking each student to donate a small Christmas gift to the Northern Rivers Children’s Services. We hope these donated gifts will bring joy to a number of families this Christmas season.

Christian Studies

Student reflection on the Christian Studies Love thy Neighbour Incursion by Sophia Preece Yr7.

I found the incursion enjoyable, interesting and eye-opening. I felt this as the incursion consisted of a series of challenges which were fun, frustrating and pushed my thinking. However, the challenges also made me realise how people who are in poverty live.

The bag making challenge, while fun, was also quite frustrating and confusing, as sometimes they would send back bags that looked the same as the ones they took. During the medicine challenge it was really hard to try and understand something I couldn’t read.

In the end I found that both challenges opened my eyes to what inequality actually felt like, rather than just to know the meaning of the term. In addition, it allowed me to experience what it’s like to rely on people around me and the need to work together for survival.
