Year 9

Homeland Tour to Arnhem Land – 2023

Following on from a wonderfully successful Yr 9 Camp, in partnership with Culture College, we will be offering a Homeland Tour to Arnhem Land on 15-22 April 2023, open to current Yr 9 and 10 students.

In this cultural immersion, students will revisit and build on the ideas they were introduced to last year during the Culture College incursion, or this year during Yr 9 Camp. After a brief stay at the Gulkula site students will travel to one of the Yolngu Homeland areas. This offers the opportunity for a much more personal, extensive and detailed exploration of Yolngu culture has been possible so far.

It would suit students who are ready and willing to consider more deeply the knowledge they gained previously and how to effect change for the future.

The cost of the tour is $4,925. A proposed itinerary and booking form are available on Pulse (see News section).

Bookings and payments should be made directly to Culture College, so please check their Terms and Conditions on the Booking Form.

Places are limited will be reserved upon payment of the deposit to Culture College.

For more information, please view this recording of an Information Session held recently.

Body Double

This Term in the Level 1 Art Gallery, Yr 9 Visual Arts students have had their collaborative portrait works on display. These works called ‘Body Double’ are the result of a cooperative approach to artmaking and reference the work of Julie Rrap, (one of Australia’s most celebrated artists) particularly her works – ‘Persona and Shadow’ and ‘Body Double’.

The students worked together to create a new figure, using images of themselves and by appropriating poses, settings or styles from significant works from art history. The large-scale group portraits are playful and engaging and are a delight to see.
