Head of Secondary School

This week our 2022 Yr 12 students completed their final examinations. Expressions of relief were common and students have been taking the time to get used to not putting on their uniform each day, and having extended leisure time. Yr 10 have been away at Camp at Myall lakes, and our 2023 Yr 12 students have been settling into their leadership roles by guiding and role modelling for the student community.

Orientation Day

A warm welcome was provided to Yr 7 2023 students on Tuesday by the Secondary School. Students enjoyed the opportunity to explore life on the Senior Campus.

This was our first in-person Orientation Day since 2019 and it took a collaborative team effort to make the day a success.

  • 2023 Yr 7 Tutors and staff graciously stepped in to perform the role of Tutor
  • Key Pastoral Staff including Year Advisors Jimmy Tod-Hill and Jess Adams, Chaplain Kirsten Philips and the Heads of House
  • The Enrolments Team and who offered a warm welcome to parents and students
  • Our stellar administration staff, Susan Jones, Erika Yamamoto and Leanne Kells, who were instrumental in the organisation of the event
  • The Support and Operations teams including Ben Peate in AV, Joel and the Canteen team, Julie and Facilities
  • Stephen Webber, Marita Jansons and Anna Marie Rolon for their welcome to students and parents
  • The excellent demonstration lessons offered by teachers (sherbet making in Science was a student highlight!)
  • Our 40+ Yr 11 Peer Support Leaders, Peer Support Captains, Secondary School Captains, House Captains and Yr 7 2022 student representatives
  • Learning Plus, Yr 6 Teachers, our counselling teams and JS Dean of Students, Katie-Louise Clinton, for their Redlands transition guidance

Ms Jansons reports that nerves were put at ease through the warm welcome offered by the whole community. We look forward to our new Yr 7 students being back on campus and wearing their uniform with pride, in late January.

Yr 9 Service Learning Program

Throughout Term 3, Yr 9 students have actively engaged with researching and organising charity drives for local charities and service learning opportunities. Student efforts culminated in an offsite 1-day service learning program supporting their chosen charity. Travelling from Manly to Paddington, students engaged in environmental clean-ups, connected with the elderly, cooked meals for the homeless and connected with younger students.

The day concluded with Yr 9 writing Christmas letters to the residents of Bougainvillea, creating toiletries packs for the homeless, packing suitcases for foster children, folding clothes and packing food hampers. Witnessing Yr 9’s compassion and passion for this project was inspiring. Key charities supported include Dress for Success, Share the Dignity, Hope in a Suitcase and St Vincent de Paul. Yr 9 students were supported in their activities by Year Advisor Ms Lisa Vale and Assistant Year Advisor Ms Abigail Walker. Both staff members have contributed considerable time to ensuring the program engaged Yr 9 students and provided ample opportunities for leadership development in the service space.
