Phase 3: Preparing for Yr 11 and Senior Studies

Yr 10 returned from Camp this week to complete their final phase of their Senior School Orientation.  This session included iGrow Session 2 by Ben Castelli, Head of Learning Analytics, and a workshop on Senior Study Skills led by Darren Taylor, Dean of IB, and Lucy Benjamin, Dean of HSC.

Yr 10 were able to identify what iGrow data says about our past Yr 11 and 12 students, that our highest achieving students were found to connect with Redlands Careers Advisors early and often. They were also provided time to reflect on their own personal development, their social-emotional learning to date and key areas to focus on in preparation for the next two years. Key study skills for success were shared with students and will be referred back to on an ongoing period. Students now have many key ingredients in their possession to reach their full potential.  They are encouraged to use these last few weeks of term to try some strategies that may best work for them before starting Yr 11.

Peer Support Training

This week, students engaged in Peer Support Training led by Yr 12 Peer Support Leaders and the Heads of House. Yr 10 were provided an overview of the program and then jumped in to have a chance at leading various activities with a group of peers, practicing for leading Yr 7 students. Yr 10 participants were asked to channel their inner Yr 7 self and act in character to get a true sense of what the job would entail.  Yr 10 rose to this challenge and enjoyed two periods of having a chance at the games and activities themselves.

Students were asked to submit their application and express their interest in being a Peer Support Leader at the end of the session this week.  For further information and for those students absent from training this week, students are asked to submit their interest following the announcement on the Yr 10 Pastoral Page and further information will be sent out for a make-up option.

Yr 10 Camp

It was an opportunity for our cohort to escape the city and thrive in the wilderness. Whether we were hiking obscene lengths from campsite to campsite, fighting to stay afloat in canoes or chilling by the fire while the sun set, we generated some extraordinary memories. I remember most fondly the last night of camp and our impromptu party to celebrate our leader’s last trip with OEG.” – Ruby Voyce

” I must admit the theme of our Redlands Yr 10 2022 camp, ‘Challenge’, was very fitting. One day the Year Group was enjoying our Harbour Cruise all dressed up and sipping mocktails…and two days later we were fighting 30 knot headwinds on a gritty 11-hour canoeing journey. I can’t say I’ve ever experienced that fast of a life flip before, but it was refreshing and rejuvenating. Something we all haven’t experienced for a long time is the opportunity to be completely submerged in the beauty of nature without our technology. We were told at the beginning, the mindset you bring to camp will determine what you get out of it, so I made it my personal goal to look up and out, something I found myself doing less and less frequently with my phone around. ” – Tara Gold

Lismore Christmas Appeal

For most in our community, Christmas is a time for joy and celebration. But for many in Lismore, who lost homes and businesses in the recent flooding and are in the early stages of a costly disaster recovery, this holiday season will be one of hardship.

This term, we are calling on the generosity of our Redlands community to support the residents of Lismore. We are asking each student to donate a small Christmas gift to the Northern Rivers Children’s Services. We hope these donated gifts will bring joy to a number of families this Christmas season.

To support this cause, please have your child bring a new children’s gift to their Tutor class on Monday, 21 November.
