Upcoming Holiday Camps and Skills Workshops

AFTRS | Online Intro to Directing

Monday 5 December 6:30 pm – Wednesday 21 December 8:30 pm
‘What does a director do?’ This introductory course delivered completely online will focus on the responsibilities and workflow of the film and television director, from pre-production through to post-production. Taught by highly experienced Industry practitioners you’ll get an insight into this key role, and what makes a great director.
This course is delivered by Zoom Video in six evening sessions over three weeks.

  • Learn about the important role the director takes in narrative storytelling and bringing the script to screen
  • Find out about key relationships and working with the different production departments
  • Basic principles of blocking for camera, working with actors and character development

2022 Pro Youth Cricket Camp, East Sydney

Pro Performance Cricket is excited to announce 5 awesome days of cricket coaching & T20s with our Cricket Camp held during the upcoming School Holidays.
Players will experience 1-5 days of high intensity cricket coaching & T20s while being coached and mentored by professional Cricket Australia qualified coaches often including current and former first-class cricketers and Big Bash players.
Designed for cricketers aged 12 and over.

National Art School | 2023 Summer School Short Courses

Monday 9 January 9:00 am – Friday 20 January 5:00 pm
Develop and expand your creative skills in our 5-day intensive January Summer Schools, held on-campus at NAS in Darlinghurst. Study for one or two weeks and choose from a variety of courses offered in the disciplines of Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photomedia, Printmaking and Sculpture.

Quantum Computing School Summer Camp

Applications open soon for the 2023 SQA Quantum Computing Summer Camp — delivered by Qubit by Qubit (QxQ), a leading educational organisation in quantum, in collaboration with Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA).
Join us to dive into quantum computing during our 1-week summer camp designed for high school students. Learn about the fascinating world of quantum physics, to explore quantum phenomena like superposition and entanglement. The summer camp includes special workshops where you’ll learn how to code quantum gates and circuits — the building blocks of quantum algorithms using IBM’s quantum coding language, Qiskit.

Held virtually on 16-20 January 2023 with a bonus day in person, the summer camp will be open to Australian high school students (9-12) and recent school leavers. No prior quantum or coding knowledge is required or expected.

 

UQ Biology Summer School 

UQ’s Biology Summer School non-residential program is open to talented students who are going into Year 11 and have chosen to study Biology. You can study with and learn from leading researchers and passionate graduates, all while making friends with other students from around the state. 

Biology Summer School will run from 17-19 January 2023. Registrations close 27 November 2022.

Sydney Design School Summer Camps

Highlights include:

Colour Workshop

17 &18 January, 9.30am – 4pm
Have fun, play, experiment and engage with colour over two days. Take a deep dive into it! Explore colour theory and develop schemes. This creative hands-on workshop isn’t just about interiors – you’ll learn all about colour and colour mixing for other applications too. This workshop is for you if you want to use colour confidently in everyday day life, or as a Designer, Architect, or Artist.

 

Designer for a Day

19 January, 9.30am – 4pm
This fun, hands on workshop is an interior design taster for creative high school students in Years 10, 11 & 12. They’ll find out what it takes to become a professional Interior Designer and understand what an average day looks like on the job. At the end of the day, they will have an appreciation of interiors as a career and will have created a mood board and experimented with 3D design in our computer lab. 

 

Outward Bound | Gutsy Girls Adventure

Monday 16 January 8:00 am – Wednesday 25 January 5:00 pm

Outward Bound’s Gutsy Girls Adventure is a 10-day journey through some of the most spectacular coastal wilderness Australia has to offer. Meet others who share a spirit of adventure and self-discovery. Journey through towering Karri trees and paddle the wild coastline of the Southern Ocean.
After ten days, you’ll see and appreciate life differently. You’ll be ready to take on the world.
 

ACU Western Civilisation Program Summer School

A three-day academic retreat for high school students going into Years 11 and 12 who have an interest in the liberal arts and humanities. The Summer School will include:

  • Lectures and discussions
  • Year 12 exam and study skills workshops
  • Games, activities, socialising and more

Come along and get an insight into what it’s like to study ACU’s Bachelor of Arts (Western Civilisation) and hear from current students about their experience of the program.

What’s included? Workshops, sessions, meals, accommodation and more. Travel bursaries are available for students who live more than 500km from Sydney.

Cochlear Autumn School of Engineering (CASE)

17-21 April 2023
A 5 day Engineering immersion – visiting our key Universities, and 5 exciting Engineering organisations and projects. Meet over 150 Engineers providing a snapshot of the exciting possibilities that lie ahead for you!
We hope to see the return of the Cochlear site visit – their manufacturing unit has been locked down to all visitors and non-essential staff since early 2020. (The Inner ear component of the implant is made by a highly skilled workforce – by hand!)
For students in Year 11 and Year 12. CASE is a recognised residential program for Gold Duke of Edinburgh Medal.
