From The Principal

It has been wonderful to welcome back the Yr 9 students and staff who took part in the Indigenous Cultural Immersion trip to Arnhem Land last week and to hear about the significance of their time with the Yolŋu people and how much they gained from the experience. There have been numerous emails of gratitude shared and the comments below from Krishna Gupta highlight the importance of the program.

I have been honoured to visit Arnhem Land in the past week, and I am writing to express my gratitude. I thoroughly enjoyed discovering the Yolŋu law system and kinship, and making friends with several of the Yolŋu citizens. I have gained a deeper understanding and heartfelt respect for these people. The connections among their community and the kindness they displayed whilst providing this experience for us Yr 9 students is simply unforgettable.’

My sincere thanks to Culture College for their partnership in facilitating this memorable experience and to our dedicated team of staff who gave so much of themselves to support the program and make it possible.

I am delighted to announce that Ms Argiro Anagnostu (eLearning Coordinator (P-6) and Ms Wendy Duckworth (eLearning Coordinator 7-12) are joint recipients of the 2023 Redlands Innovative Teaching Fellowship.

Next year Argiro and Wendy will be attending the International Society for Technology in Education conference in Philadelphia to learn more about how Redlands can leverage the transformative potential of digital technologies to rethink and redesign learning to best serve our school community. The field research component of their tour will include visits to a number of lighthouse technology schools in the Brisbane area as well as Queensland University of Technology. Findings from the study tour will contribute to the development of our Culture of Innovation at Redlands in alignment with our Strategic Plan

The RPFA AGM was held last Thursday evening, followed by a function to thank various groups of people who have volunteered in support of the School this year. It was fantastic to have so many volunteers attend and a wonderful opportunity for the Chair of the Board, Glenda McLoughlin, to express our sincere gratitude. The RPFA have provided incredible support throughout the year in organising such a wide range of events to bring the community together and providing fundraising support to the School. One such example was the provision of morning tea treats for all staff on World Teachers’ Day, last Friday. This gesture of appreciation is sincerely valued by staff.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to attend the Redlands Melbourne Cup Luncheon on Tuesday and join a table with a group of Redlands House and Yr 6 parents. Having to wait several years to run the event, there was an energy of expectation in the room and the sense of fun and laughter pervaded the entire event. My thanks to the team of Redlands staff who made it all possible and for the very generous support of the community that enabled over $30,000 to be raised for the means-tested Dr Sue Morey AM Scholarship.
