Melbourne Cup Luncheon – Thank You
What a fabulous afternoon at our Redlands Melbourne Cup Luncheon. It was a memorable day at the Sergeants’ Mess in Chowder Bay, as guests enjoyed a gourmet luncheon, entertainment, Fashions on the Field, Raffles and Sweeps, and of course the race, all against the backdrop of stunning Sydney Harbour. It was wonderful to see parents from Redlands House and all Year Groups including Alumni parents and guests. A special acknowledgement to our families in Redlands House who joined us as well as parents who had to take a day off.
Thank you to our MC Kate Cox, Year 7 and 9 parent for being with us and Event Partner Jon Snead The Agency for a generous contribution. Thank you to Redlands families, Alumni and local businesses who generously donated items to the Silent Auction and raffle, your support is greatly appreciated. We have raised over $30,000 towards the means-tested Dr Sue Morey AM Scholarship. At Redlands, we provide a world class education for our children preparing them to be thoughtful and inclusive global citizens, and this scholarship will give an opportunity to a very deserving student.
I would also like to acknowledge the Foundation Team supported by the Event Organising Committee for their exceptional efforts.
Congratulations to the winners of the Fashions on the Field:
Most Colourful Filly – Sue Robson
Cutting Edge Colt – Samuel Scoles
Millinery Award – Erica Bongarzoni
Statement Socks – Paul Sigaloff.
Congratulations to the raffle and auction winners. If you have not collected your prizes, please contact the Foundation Office on 9968 9858.
Alumni Award Winners – Spotlight on L Janusz Hooker, Redlander 1987
We were delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Alumni at the inaugural Redlander Alumni Awards. This week, we feature Redlander Alumni Winner L Janusz Hooker, (RL 1987).
Janusz has balanced a global career in finance and real-estate with his passion for sport, reconciliation and youth education. After graduating from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania he represented Australia internationally as an oarsman for several years which culminated in winning a Bronze medal as part of the Australian Quadruple Sculls at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
He worked at the Asian Infrastructure Fund in Hong Kong, then as Founder and CEO of TiNSHED, an Asia-Pacific technology venture firm. He subsequently moved to New York and became Managing Director of Asia for WP Carey and Co, a global real estate investment firm before leading the buyout of the company which is his namesake, LJ Hooker. After bringing it back to family control in 2009, he has been the Chairman of LJ Hooker Limited since then.
Janusz established the LJ Hooker Foundation which is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation, committed to three national charities: the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Australia and the Cultural College Arnhem Land Aboriginal Corporation, as well as partnering with multiple other charities.
He is passionate about reconciliation and youth education, co-founding the Foundation for Kids in New York, the Kids to Coast Program for the Mutitjulu Community in Central Australia and Culture College Arnhem Land Aboriginal Corporation.
Redlands partners with Culture College to offer a unique cultural immersion program for Secondary School students and where Redlands Year 9 Students spent five days last week.
Janusz has happily assisted by presenting at events hosted by the School and Redlanders Alumni Association.
Congratulations Janusz and thank you for your ongoing connection to Redlands .For further information about Janusz’s impressive journey and other Award Winners’ achievements here.
