The passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth the Second, has been a significant moment in history and as announced by the Prime Minister, Thursday 22 September will be a National Day of Mourning and a Public Holiday. The last day of Term 3 for students will now be Wednesday 21 September.

The Rector of St Peter’s Anglican Church, Cremorne, and Board Director, The Rev’d Tim St Quintin has extended an invitation to all members of the Redlands community to attend a memorial service for The Queen, at St Peter’s on Sunday 25 September at 10am. The guest preacher will be Bishop Peter Watson, former Archbishop of Melbourne.

Our musicians achieved outstanding results at the Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival (ASBOF) held at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music last Sunday. Congratulations to the Advanced Concert Band who were awarded Gold and the Combined Intermediate and Advanced Strings who were awarded Silver in their respective sections. This is a fantastic achievement and my sincere thanks to all of our exceptional Music staff and especially the Yr 12 students who have set such a wonderful example with their commitment and dedication.

I congratulate our Snowsports team on their excellent achievements at the Australian National Interschools Championships, held at Perisher at the end of last week. The team placed 2nd in Secondary Overall Coed, with 9 team and 6 individual Top 10 places. A special mention to the following teams and individuals who achieved 6 podium places:

Div 1 Girls Snowboard GS team, becoming National Champions

Silver

Div 1 Girls Snowboard Cross team
Div 1 Boys Slopestyle Ski – Billy Thomas (Yr 12)

This week we have had a range of opportunities to give thanks for the service given by our Year 12 leaders. Their theme of ‘Mission Possible’ was celebrated in the student led assembly, which highlighted the strength of student involvement in activities across the full life of the School. One of their final leadership tasks has been the organisation of the House Spirit Fair, which enables students to undertake a range of fun events while supporting their nominated fundraising activities. Due to weather this event has been moved to Friday afternoon. A highlight will no doubt be the lip-sync battle, with the word that a staff team is set to make another slick appearance.

Parent Survey

We recognise the vital role our wider community plays in the prosperity of Redlands and remain committed to providing opportunities for feedback on our performance. With this in mind, early next week we will be inviting all parents to complete a short survey about the School. This anonymous survey will remain open until Tuesday 4 October for parents to provide their feedback. I thank you in advance for your contribution.
