Father’s Day Coffee Morning

We were delighted to welcome a large number of dads back on campus for our annual Father’s Day Coffee morning. Blessed with blue skies, the event allowed for many parents to be back on campus for the first time in a while and enjoy the opportunity to reconnect with each other and the school. My thanks to our Events Manager, Rebecca Mackay, for her coordination of this important event.

Primary Debating

Congratulations to our Primary A and Primary B Debating teams who have qualified for the Schools Debating Network semi-finals to be held on Friday evening. Both teams have had an incredible year of debating and shown impressive progress across all three competitions.

Primary A, having only lost one debate, are sitting at the top of the table and will debate against Riverview whilst Primary B will take on Wenona.

We wish Fergus, Georgia, Lauren, Eleanor, Aimee, Josh, Apollo, Kate, Ollie, Alexia, Charlie and Ivy the best luck in this knockout stage of the competition.

Yr 3 Camp

Our Yr 3 students are currently enjoying their first Junior School Camp at Vision Valley, a short drive north from Redlands. As I finish this week’s Note Day, I am currently in between sessions with the students who have been thoroughly engaged in a series of outdoor education activities. Many students have shared how they have forged some new friendships and connections with peers by simply being in the same activity group.

We have posted some pictures of the trip so far on the Yr 3 page on Pulse for you to enjoy and get a feel of the trip so far and I look forward to joining families welcome the group back at approximately 2.15pm on Friday afternoon. I know you will also join me in thanking the amazing team of teachers here caring for the group. It is a huge responsibility, but the meticulous planning of Mr Latimer and the team has helped with the smooth organisation of the trip yet again.

NAPLAN (Yrs 3 and 5) and Allwell (Yr 6) Assessment Results

Parents in Yrs 3 and 5 should receive your child’s NAPLAN results via post in the coming days. As we have started analysing the data, we are already seeing significant upward trends in our results and encouraging growth. Class teachers are also now reviewing individual student results to further support their planning and focus for each student.

Yr 6 students moving into Yr 7 who sat the recent Allwell Assessments as part of our academic transition program should also receive their results via post. If you do not receive these results in the coming days, please contact Ms Wilson, Junior Campus Administration and Operations Coordinator.

Junior Music Festival Video

As promised, we are thrilled to share the video recording of the 2022 Junior Music Festival School of Rock. As you will see, the quality of performance was outstanding and was such a joy to see our students enjoy performing to their loved ones.

Kids Giving Back

Head of Secondary School, Ms Van de Peer, and I were delighted to receive an email of acknowledgement, recognising Redlands students who had participated in community programs at Kids Giving Back during Term 2 of this year and the recent July school holidays.

These students were among over 500 young people who produced over 13,500 hot meals, soup, salads, fruit kebabs, breakfast boxes, snack packs, care packs and decorated tote bags, with empathetic, positive messages, which were distributed to 13 charities around Sydney. Volunteering in the July school holidays was especially valuable as the organisation held a twice weekly soup kitchen, making and handing out almost 1000 servings of soup in the cold and rain, to those who needed warm food and support. Student volunteers were also especially helpful in folding and packing new clothes for over 12,000 vulnerable people, many of whom were affected by this year’s floods. These types of letters truly highlight how our students are living our School Values and I am thrilled to acknowledge Yr 5 students, Matt Sinpraseuth and Sasha Gordon. I will also make mention of their service in our next assembly.

R U OK Day

In our assembly, our student wellbeing leaders shared the significance of R U OK Day in our community and how we look out for each other. Sometimes, the messages can have greater impact coming from other students and in particular, the students talked about the importance of this being a conversation starter all year round and not just on this date when we shine more of a light on its significance.

No Playing on Equipment After School

Please can I remind all parents that as per the very clear signage, the various play equipment and oval are out of bounds for students after school, unless in a supervised activity with Redlands staff such as our After School Care program or one of our sports offerings. We have had concerns raised of students running around the campus unsupervised whilst parents are chatting in the piazza and there has also been challenges distinguishing between these students and those registered for our After School Care program. Thank you for your immediate attention and I will also remind students about this in our next assembly.

Code Camp – Holiday Camp 27 – 29 September (Yrs 2-6)

We are delighted to partner again with Code Camp to host an exclusive holiday program for Redlands students in Yrs 2-6 to design, code, problem solve and become storytellers and creators of technology, by creating games, websites, music and videos or flying drones! The program will take place in the first week of the September holiday break and booking information including an early bird rate are on the flyer below.
