Winter Gala Day
In our follow up event to the 2020 Inaugural Winter Gala Day we had over 200 students sign up into their houses and participate in this event. It was great to see so many students sign up who did not normally play Football for the school. The chance to play Football with their friends while representing their house proved to be a drawcard leading up to the day. We were also fortunate to have the bye in Girls AFL competition which meant they could participate too.
The format of 7 v 7 small sided games for Years 3,4 and 5 before moving to full field in 15min games with no breaks allowed for fast flowing games of Football. Each house was assigned two coaches to look after them and the competition between them was just as fierce as it was on the field for the students. The finals on the day were based on the results from the matches all morning. The final saw Cowper take on McDouall with McDouall winning 5-0. The overall point score from all grades over the morning saw Cowper claim the trophy for 2022 beating McDouall 168-163 points.
In looking at the results for each grade
Year 3 division was won by Cowper
Year 4 division was won by Dumolo
Year 5 division was won by McDouall
Year 6 division was won by McDouall
Well done to all students on their participation and to the coaches for their hard work all morning. It was also great that we were able to keep our neighbours with parents and carers following the staggered drop off and pick up locations at various times.
We had a photographer on the day so will send a link home once he has uploaded all the action shots from the day.
Sydney Swans WAFL Player Visit
We were fortunate to have secured a visit from Sydney Swans WAFL team to come and spend an hour with our girls team who are currently playing in their IPSHA Term 3 competition. Bella Smith, number 11 for the Swans ran through a series of drills and skills with our Year 6 team on Monday. Her bio is below along with some photos of our students in action.
Bella Smith was recruited by Collingwood in the 2020 AFLW Draft and prior to that played three seasons with Norwood in the SANFL. Originally from Cleve on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, Smith has played for the Central Allies, the representative team for South Australia and the Northern Territory at the 2019 AFLW Under 18 Championships. A rebounding defender, Smith also has the ability to play up forward. She’s also been part of a great program at Collingwood too. Bella is a very resilient athlete who has moved to multiple states to pursue her career in AFLW.
This Swans play their inaugural game on Nth Sydney Oval this Sunday at 5pm and Redlands families are invited to attend.

HICES Athletics
On Wednesday we had 57 athletes representing Redlands travel out to Homebush to participate in the HICES Selection carnival for possible inclusion in the HICES team that would progress through to CIS. A mix of boys and girls from Under 9’s to Under 12’s who had qualified for the team based on their performance at our school carnivals competed with enthusiasm and maturity. Redlands was responsible for hosting the carnival and while a few schools were unable to make it due to the roads out of the mountains being shut due to Tuesday’s wild weather it was perfect conditions for those on track. We had 23 students qualify for the HICES team who will now compete at CIS later this term and those families have been notified via engage this week.
