Well done everyone and a big thank you to all for supporting such an important cause.

Upcoming Events

Our term 3 calendar is in full swing with quite a few events on the horizon. Please read through the information below to ensure you have all the dates in your diaries!

Week 5 STEAM WEEK

15-19 August

Next week our students will be participating in STEAM activities throughout the week where they will be following a design process of thinking to investigate, collaborate and create! Our students will also be working on their big questions for Dr Vanessa Pirotta’s visit on Friday. We look forward to our families coming along to the Friday morning sessions to hear her speak as well as to enjoy a ‘gallery walk’ of the STEAM projects in our classrooms.

Dr Vanessa Pirotta is a wildlife scientist, science communicator and woman in STEM. Vanessa’s research uses innovative technologies for wildlife conservation. Her zoological background has taken her around the world for wildlife research. She is a passionate and experienced science communicator who loves making science accessible. Vanessa has represented Australia internationally as the national winner of a world-renowned science communication competition known as FameLab, where she placed second in the world. We are very excited to welcome Vanessa to the Prep School.

Week 6 Book Week

22-26 August

A message from our Librarian, Mrs Roberts

Book Week is fast approaching! This is a very exciting time for the students and staff as they get to celebrate all the good things about books and reading. It is a time too, for you to talk about books you liked as a child, Book Week activities that you took part in, to talk about the role of books and reading in your life and a time to do lots of shared reading.

At school we will celebrate in many ways. We will hear from authors and illustrators who have already published books. We will find out who has won prizes for the best picture books published in Australia last year. We will do even more reading than usual in our classrooms and… on Friday 26th August, we will dress up as someone we admire or aspire to be! It may be an actual person or a generic occupation, such as an artist, a fireman, a scientist, or a ballerina. Please ensure that you have talked to your child about who they have decided to be, what they will need to dress as that person and that they can tell everyone about why they admire them. If they have a book that helped them to decide, they may like to bring it too.

This year’s Parade will occur on Grandparents Day, which is also a special time for your child so if grandparents are visiting you or school, please include them in your child’s excitement about who they are dressing as. There will be a chance in the afternoon before picking up to come in and see your child’s class in their dress ups!

The Premier’s Reading Challenge Login site will close next week, so if you do plan to complete this challenge and still have books to enter for your child, please do this now. The certificates of completion will then be finalised, and they will be sent to us by the end of term 4. Thank you to everyone who read thirty books to or with their child. I hope you enjoyed that bonding time and found some new favourite books.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

The long-awaited return of Grandparents & Special Friends Day takes place on Friday 26 August and as per the invitation, Prep and RH guests should arrive in the Prep School no earlier than 9.00am where they will be guided towards the Book Parade seating on the oval. They will then watch the Parade and spend some time in classrooms until 10.30am.

For grandparents who are here for both the Preschool/Prep event and then the Junior School event, we will organise a morning tea to keep up the energy levels needed!
