Drama and Theatre

“We must all do theatre to find out who we are and to discover who we could become” – Augusto Boal

Augusto Boal, a political theatre activist who pushed the boundaries on social commentary and action believed it was in Theatre that we look at society and aim for change. Recently, I watched the technical rehearsal for Yr 9 Documentary Drama and was immensely proud of the sophisticated work they are developing about different social issues. It made me reflect on the importance of the art form and how we can use these experiences to look at ourselves and the way we would like to interact with others and the world. Now, more than ever is an important time to positively reconnect with family and friends as we very much heading toward normality.

The performance audition submissions are now closed for Gala Arts. Excitingly, we are now opening submissions for the Gala Arts Photography section. All the information is below and can be found on iLearn. Please email drama@redlands.nsw.edu to be added to the page for the submission.

Extra-subject Drama and Theatre

Classes are going well. If you want to enrol your child please contact drama@redlands.nsw.edu.au. Some classes are at capacity and have a waitlist.

Reminder: A friendly reminder to communicate with your child about their extra-curricular classes in the morning. We have had cases where students are in the car line or their designated pick up spot and have needed to be located before class starts. Please ensure any absences are sent to drama@redlands.nsw.edu.au or your child’s class tutor prior to the lesson.

Highlight of the Week: Redlands House

Creative Kids Wednesday Class: Students are playing “Follow the Leader/Pass the Pattern” which gives them focus and provides everyone with the opportunity to lead the group.

Highlight of the Week: Preparatory Music Theatre Kindergarten, Yr 1 and Yr 2

Today we sang through A Song Of Peace and added some harmonies and new actions. The Yr 2 singers really encouraged and supported the kindy singers as we challenged ourselves with holding parts. Well done to everyone!
