Year 11

Paul Dillon Presentation.

Yr 11 had the opportunity to meet with Paul Dillon on Wednesday as part of his presentation on Cannabis and Other Drugs. It was pleasing to see Paul debunk some of the myths in this area, particularly with understanding the long-term effects of cannabis usage and how it affects an adolescent brain which can lead to significant mental health issues. It was alarming to see the increase in the prevalence rates of cannabis usage, particularly in e-cigarettes and vaping, often used by Secondary School students. Yr 11 found the presentation really useful, particularly when it came to understanding the effects of cannabis, vaping, and alcohol including knowing when to call an ambulance and using the app – emergency+ in the case of an emergency. The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners. The app uses GPS functionality built into smartphones to help a Triple Zero caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services.

For further information on cannabis and other related drugs such as e-cigarettes and vaping, the following resources can be accessed here via Paul Dillons ‘Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia’ (DARTA) website.
