Round 2 Winter Sport
The beautiful sunny conditions last week allowed all our Winter Teams the opportunity to play Round 2 under clear skies and a warm sun, very different from the days ahead of us in terms of weather. Our Yr 6 Football teams have been training very well and it shows on match day with two great all round performances over the last two weeks, while our younger Football teams are finding their feet in matches. Our fastest growing sport, Netball has had some great numbers in the optional morning session and while we were down a few students with sickness on the weekend, the season looks promising. Our Hockey team, made up of all Yr 5 girls had a great first match last week and look forward to this weeks game as they continue to learn the sport. Rugby, a growing sport at Redlands had a great win over St Aloysius’ College at Primrose Park on the weekend while our Yr 3 and 5 teams had a tough day in the Sevens at Koola Park, but show early signs of a good season ahead.
Coaches of each team are asked to nominate a player each week who they think stood out in their match, not only in the area of ability but including effort, enthusiasm and displaying the values of Redlands and Sport in general.

Last week our HICES Netball Representative, Tahlia Stone from Yr 6 made her back to Sydney to trial for the NSW CIS team. With over 100 girls trialing it was very competitive. They played 9 games, won 5, drew 1 and lost 3. Great experience and although she was not selected in the final team she trialled very well, making it into the possible and probables in the final round. On Monday we had four Yr 5 Hockey girls make their way to Pennant Hills for their CIS trial and while no one was selected in the CIS team, it was a great experience for our girls. In the Boys Hockey, Otis Gait was selected in the NSW CIS team for 2022 and we wish him luck as he prepares for NSW PSSA Competition. We wish our three Rugby boys, Lincoln, Tom and Harry the best of luck at their upcoming CIS Rugby trials.

Gymnastics Open Day- Competitive Gym Boys & Girls – Final reminder
In exciting news, we can confirm that IPSHA Gym will be up and running their carnival this year. At this carnival, schools are invited to send through a school Gymnastics team in a variety of disciplines. For 2022 Redlands Junior School are going to be involved in this carnival after a two-year COVID break and would like to train up and send a team of boys and girls to compete at this one off carnival held in August.

As you would be aware, we have a new contractor, Aussie Gems Gymnastics, who are running our recreational program (Wednesday Sport ) as well as coming on board for this new representative Gym program (IPSHA Gym).

Snowsports
As we begin to prepare for the upcoming season Redlands has been involved in competitive Snowsports for many years and has won numerous awards at the national level for individual events and as a school. We are committed to prepare our students to ride and ski safely and competently to enjoy this wonderful lifelong family sport. To race, students need to confidently ski or snowboard on all blue runs.
The program commences with the start of the winter school holiday and if your children are keen to compete, they can enter the Redlands Cup followed by the Sydney Interschools Championships. Children can compete in a wide variety of ski and snowboard events with Redlands offering specialist training (Y1-12) for participants.
These events will take place from July 8 2022.For more information on how Junior School students can become involved in the Snowsports program please read the booklet on the following link.
