Welcome Back to Term 2
Yesterday morning started off with the Anzac Day Assembly where students were able to take a moment, reflect on the meaning of the day, hear important messages from several speakers, including a Redlands alumni and their Yr 10 peers. Musical performances by the Advanced Concert Band were exceptional and enjoyed by all.
Several Yr 10 students also volunteered to contribute to the service in various ways from being flag bearers, to reading a prayer to sharing their personal reflections. Thank you to the following students for stepping up as leaders and being vulnerable in expressing reflection and emotion for this important day: Tara Gold, Antonia Morgan, Heidi Colleran, Ethan Beggs, Eva Osborn, Noah Berbic, Sophia Rolon, Ashley Stapleton, Anneka Steele and Conor Petersen.
Yr 10 Subject Selection
This term, Yr 10 will engage in a series of opportunities designed to support them to select their senior pathway. A schedule has been developed to generate interest and deepen understanding of the various options available in the senior years. Yr 10 students will learn from the experiences of key staff members, professionals, senior students and alumni. They will engage in self-assessment, explore what the data reveals about their interests and potential, consider future careers and participate in a face-to-face chat with a member of the Secondary School Leadership Team. Parents will be involved at key points so that students are supported to reflect at the different stages of the subject selection journey and ultimately choose their pathway, HSC or IB, and the subject disciplines they wish to study, through a process of disciplined discernment. A separate communication to Year 10 parents and students will be forthcoming and contain Course Handbooks and the Subject Selection Schedule.
Students engaged in their first presentation for Subjection Selection today during Tutor. Mrs. Gemma Van de Peer and Mrs. Anna Rolon introduced the process, introduced key people and shared important upcoming dates and events. Students were also asked to complete a survey regarding their current thoughts on subject selection by Monday morning at 9am. All resources from today’s meeting will be sent through to students in the iLearn Yr 10 Pastoral Page as students remain at the centre of this process and in control this process.
Yr 10 Vaccinations 2022
Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program.
The following vaccine will be offered for Yr 10 students: Meningococcal ACWY vaccine on 26 May, 2022.
Parent Information Kits that include an information sheet, consent form and privacy statement will be handed to students in Week 2 to bring home to parents/guardians. To consent to the vaccination of their child, parents/guardians are advised to:
- read all the information provided
- complete the consent form, including signing their name next to the vaccine/s they would like their child to receive
- return the completed consent form before Friday 13 May. Students are to drop off the consent forms to the Student Services Office.
Parents please ensure;
- your child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic
- your child brings a mask to wear whilst in the clinic
- your child does not attend school if they are unwell or if they have any symptoms of COVID
Absent students
Please note that, to improve vaccination completion, students will be offered a catch-up vaccination at a subsequent clinic. They do not need to go to their GP for the missed vaccine.
Parents/guardians who do not wish their child to receive the vaccination should return the uncompleted consent form.
A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic as a physical card. Details about vaccinations given at school will also be uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to support complete vaccination histories. Parents can obtain this through the myGov website or the Express Plus Medicare Mobile app. (Anyone aged 14 years or older has to get their own statement.)
Academic Assessment Services
On 5 May, Year 10 Students will sit a half day of testing provided by Academic Assessment Services from 8.20am – 12.00pm. Students will need to bring a pen and a scientific calculator (not a CAS) to the test. As independent consultants, they specialise in the assessment and analysis of educational performance and progress. Their team of professionals include measurement and curriculum experts, education experts and teachers who will provide guidance in the development of strategic action plans for each student. Parents will be posted a copy of the results.
