Head of Preparatory School
First day back smiles are always the best aren’t they! It is only when I am standing outside the Prep Reception during first day back mornings of any term, that it makes me realise how much I miss our students during the holidays.
Our new students settled quickly as did Mrs Thomson on 1Red. Students have grown, lost teeth, had haircuts and in general, looked very smart as they walked through the door.
A sense of school pride is so important at Redlands, and I strongly encourage all our families to ensure that children have the correct uniform on when they are entering the school. This also means shirts tucked in and blazers on this term please. Today I did have to remind quite a few students that their black sandshoes are not part of the Redlands winter uniform. Students can wear sandshoes on sport days only. Please refer to the uniform policy found in the student diary for more information.
Helping those in need in Lismore
This term the PCG in partnership with K-2 classes will launch, “Light for Lismore.”
This service project will support The Northern River Children’s Services (NCRS), a not for profit organisation that is responsible for providing day care to over 2000 children in flood-impacted areas. This organisation is supported by the Commonwealth Department of Education and parent fees.
To help those in need, our students will create boxes filled with donated school and art supplies to replenish materials lost during the floods. Students will also make cards for families that are going through the heartbreaking process of rebuilding their lives. This project will provide our children with a hands-on experience to make each box with love and care and remind our neighbours in Lismore, they are cared for and not forgotten. We encourage families to embrace this opportunity to teach our children about the misfortunes of others and how to act with purpose in the community by shining your light on those in need. More details will be forthcoming in next week’s Note Day.
