Year 8
Achievements
Japanese classes went to the Japanese Tanken Centre on an excursion last week. They were exposed to Japanese language and were able to use their skills in numerous cultural activities.
“The Yr 8 students learning Japanese this year were privileged enough to have the opportunity to visit the Tanken Centre at the Kirrawee High School. It was an amazing experience to learn more about the traditional Japanese culture and language. The two Japanese teachers, Abe Sensei and Okawa Sensei, came on the fascinating excursion and helped us get a deeper insight on the language and culture. For recess and lunch, we got to eat delicious Japanese food and Obentou. During this excursion, we participated in many activities that allowed us to excel in our learning of the Japanese language. These included guess the celebrity, Kendama (trying to catch a wooden ball on a short stick), interviews and number games that were all said and written in Japanese. Although it was challenging at times, it was lots of fun!
On behalf of the Yr 8 Japanese students, we would like to thank Okawa Sensei and Abe Sensei for organising and allowing us to take part in this enjoyable experience.” Julia Saunders and Lara Cody
Visual Arts
Students have been working diligently on the Portrait program. Each student was asked to draw their classmates portrait. There were some absolutely beautiful works, and students are to be commended on their fine efforts.
Pastoral Care Focus
This week, students continue with the focus on Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind, from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The principle behind this habit is that mental creation precedes physical creation. All things are created twice. We create them first in our minds, and then we work to bring them into physical existence. By taking control of our own first creation, we can write or re-write our own scripts, thus taking some control and responsibility for the outcome.
Lockers
Can we please encourage students to ensure that they store away all items in their lockers at school and keep it locked. There are numerous students who either do not have locks on their lockers or choose to leave their personal belongings outside their assigned locker.
