Drama and Theatre

What an exhilarating and bustling Term 1. Although it has had its challenges, the students have excelled in all components despite the many obstacles they have faced. I am beyond proud of the growth and development of all Drama and Theatre students and can not wait to see what the year holds for all involved.

Shrek The Musical

On Friday last week, we farewelled the production with a Company celebration. All of the students gathered in Redlands Hall to reflect on their experience and hopes for the future whilst celebrating the commitment the outgoing Year 12 students have shown throughout their musical journey at Redlands.

Below is a final reflection and onstage picture from the closing show by Callum Wardman-Browne the 2022 Arts Captain who played Lord Farquaad.

“All three nights of Shrek were superb (not that I need to tell anyone who went to see it). It was such a thrill to be a part of, that many of us are feeling a little lost without it. I’m astounded at how in 8 weeks we all became so committed and professional. The effort from staff and students was herculean.

Once again the camaraderie between Year Groups has been a highlight of the musical and is one of its defining features. It’s one thing to be a part of such a fantastic show, but to share that experience with so many new and old friends is nothing short of magical.

Friday’s speeches were a bittersweet moment, ranging from fun and insightful reflections, like those of Zac and Gibbsy to raw, heartfelt moments from Bella and Mia.

An enormous thank you to everyone in the school community who helped make this possible from the cast, band, production and makeup students, to the teachers, including those who turned a blind eye to unsubmitted work!

If you can be a part of it next year, do. If you can see it next year, do. For your own sake, get the musical into your life.”
