Year 11

Redlands win their first round of the Mock Trial against Queenwood!

Last Friday evening, the following Yr 11 students represented Redlands at Round 1 of the Law Society of NSW Mock Trial competition against Queenwood (via Zoom!):

  • Daniel Close – 1st Barrister
  • Harley van der Pluijm – Solicitor
  • Lucy Horton – 2nd Barrister
  • Helena Dracakis – Court Officer
  • Daisy Oliver – Defendant
  • Claudia Lalich – 2nd Witness

Redlands was the Defence Team against Queenwood (the Prosecution team) who had accused our Defendant, Daisy, of assaulting the victim – a Police Officer – by resisting arrest, causing a broken nose. Claudia played the part of Daisy’s partner and gave evidence of her good character. Although the Magistrate ruled in favour of the Prosecution, the Redlands Defence Team won the overall trial on points – 209 to 237. The Magistrate was particularly impressed with Dan’s Opening Statement at the start of the trial, and Lucy’s Closing Statement at the end of the trial. As Solicitor, Harley supported the Barristers throughout the trial, and Helena helped run the trial by swearing in all witnesses and opening and closing the court.

This was the first round and every team member did an excellent job, already comfortable in their roles.

Well done Yr 11 Mock Trial team on the win!

Redlands UNICEF Ukraine Fundraising Appeal

Redlands is fundraising to help children and their families in Ukraine. The Redlands community can support by:

  1. Donating to the Redlands UNICEF Ukraine Fundraising Appeal
  2. Roseby Bake Sale, Monday 28 March. In Week 9, Roseby Students will be hosting a Bake Sale. Roseby students are encouraged to bring baked goods to sell. All students should bring their appetites and some money to purchase baked goods.
  3. International Day Activity & Food Stalls, Tuesday 5 April. In Week 10, students will be running activity and food stalls during lunch. Students are able to sign-up to host a stall here. See the Languages section of Note Day for more information.

By contributing to our fundraising efforts, you’ll be helping UNICEF provide access to basic services including water and sanitation, immunization and health care, schooling and learning, psychosocial support, and emergency cash assistance for children.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Briar Carter, Alana Mansfield and Maddie Borris who were part of the Redlands Girls Firsts Football team which won the first round of the CIS Cup.

On that note, I do like to include as many student achievements as possible as part of my Yr 11 Note Day entry; however, results from Sport and Cocurricular Activities are not always formally communicated with me. If you would like your child to be featured in Note Day, please email me directly with the achievement. I do value being kept in the loop with any achievements by our Yr 11 cohort, regardless if the achievement is included in Note Day.

COVID-19 Student Support

All Yr 11 students who are at home isolating have the option of setting up a Zoom meeting with either Ms Lucy Benjamin (HSC) or Mr Darren Taylor (IB) to follow up on any class or assessment work they are missing throughout the week. Students should email either Lucy or Darren to arrange the Zoom meeting.

Yr 12 Jerseys

On Tuesday, an email was sent to all Yr 11 parents, carers and students regarding the purchasing of Yr 12 jerseys via flexischools. Over the next couple of weeks,  students will begin the process of trying on sample jerseys and confirming their size. As mentioned in the attachment to the email, all payments of the jersey need to be finalised by Friday 8 April. Yr 12 Jerseys will be given to students in early Term 4.
