Music Awards Dinner

Last Friday evening, the Music Department hosted the annual Music Awards Dinner at the Manly Golf Course for 230 Redlands students, staff and parents. This event is designed as a celebration of student achievement in the Cocurricular Ensemble program, presenting students with a variety of awards across all Year Groups. In Yrs 8-11, these awards are presented to students for individual contribution in the areas of Service, Dedication and Leadership and Excellence to the Redlands Music program. All Yr 7 students received Certificates of Participation and Yr 12 students received a Graduates Portfolio acknowledging their many years of service to the Music program during their time at Redlands.

Thanks to Music staff who prepared student performances, conducted various ensembles and played alongside music groups across Yrs 7-12. The integration of Yr 7 students performing alongside Yr 12 students is such an important dimension of the Music Ensemble environment. Repertoire presented included music from the Small Ensemble program this term (Weeks 1-6) and we would like to acknowledge the overseeing roles of our MIC of Ensembles, Mrs Hilary Luck (MIC Bands), Mr Benjamin Castelli (MIC Small Ensembles) and Mr Michael Warby (MIC Strings) who managed these ensembles. It is wonderful to observe rich and varied performance contexts emerging from these areas within the Music program. We would also like to thank our special guests Ms Sarah McGarry, who presented students with their 2018 Music Awards, and Head of Ballet and Dance, Mrs Karen Martin, who joined us for this evening of celebration.

The Music Department would like to thank our comperes for the evening, Music Captains, Stella Everett (Choir), Marvin Ma (Bands), James Nemec (Small Ensembles), Michelle Li (Strings), Ms Pip Tame for her logistical organisation, and the Friends of Music Committee led by Ms Felicity Gates for all their work in supporting this event.

The following students in Yrs 8-11 were presented Music Awards by Ms Sarah McGarry, Deputy Principal.

Senior Campus

Yr 12 HSC and IB Music Showcase (Week 6)

Congratulations to Yr 12 Music Elective students who performed at the Higher School Certificate Music and International Baccalaureate Showcase on Monday evening. All students were extremely well prepared in all aspects of their performance programs and have worked diligently over the last year to produce music of a very high standard. We would like to acknowledge the work of the Academic Music teaching staff Ms Arienne Brodie and Mrs Amy Richardson, along with the Music tutors who accompanied students in their performances: Mr Pete Atkins (Drums), Mr Jon Gray (Trumpet), Mr Zi-Hao Li (Piano), Ms Mary Rapp (Bass), Ms Tomomi Takahashi (Piano) and Mr David Wooltorton (Guitar).

Instrumental Competition Auditions (Week 8)

The audition process will require instrumentalists (Yrs 7-12) to demonstrate advanced technical skills, personal expression and understanding of style. For the audition, students will only need to present ONE work. A second contrasting piece will need to be listed and considered at the time of the audition as part of a discussion with the audition panel. This piece WILL NOT be required to be presented at the time of the audition but will need to be prepared and presented in advance of the Competition if the candidate is selected as a finalist. Copies of piano accompaniment scores must be submitted to Music Reception at the time of the application submission.
