New Music Centre –  Official Opening

We were delighted to welcome our donors, Friends of Music and other special guests to the official opening and naming of the first building in our Senior Campus development. The building has been named after Mr John Roberts, one of the three founding members of SCEGGS Redlands Limited, who served as a Director, Secretary and Treasurer of the Redlands Board from 1976 to 1997.

During his time as a Redlands Director, coeducation was introduced, Early Childhood education was re-established, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme commenced, the former Cremorne Girls’ High School, now the Junior Campus, was purchased and the High Country Campus was developed as a base for Outdoor Education and Winter School.

Today, all of our Redlands students from Preschool to Yr 7 are involved in Music education and many Secondary School students study Music as an elective and participate in our Music Ensembles program, which currently stands at over 30 throughout the School.

We wish to thank and pay tribute to all of the Redlands families and other members of the Redlands community whose donations have made these wonderful new Music facilities possible. Due to your generosity, the high quality sound system and lighting were able to be installed as well as the purchasing of musical instruments, which are greatly appreciated.

Alumni Jack Frerer (Class of 2013) composed a piece for the occasion Sonnets to Orpheus. Jack is a recognised composer of music for concert, film and dance, as well as an instrumentalist and producer, currently studying at The Juilliard School, awarded with the Adrian Weller Scholarship and the Steuermann Memorial Prize.

If you still wish to secure a seat plaque at this wonderful facility, please click here or if you wish to contribute towards the Building Fund, please contact me directly.

Redlands Melbourne Cup – Tuesday 6 November

This year the tradition continues and we will be hosting the event that stops the nation at the Sergeant’s Mess in Chowder Bay. Lots of prizes and surprises! Early bird tickets are available here. There are special discounts for tables and the table Early bird price per person is lower than last year. For any booking enquiries, please contact Melanie Hendra, Events Manager.

New Music Centre Opening

Last night I was delighted to attend the official opening of the first phase of our Senior Campus redevelopment, along with our three Founding Trustees, current and past Board Directors, members of the Foundation Advisory Committee, RPFA Committee members, Friends of Music, parents, Music staff members and students. The building is now providing outstanding facilities for our Music program and in future, will provide a home for our Secondary School Office and Student Wellbeing team after the New Learning Hub has been completed.

The opening of the facility provided an opportunity to recognise four people who have contributed so much to our School community over the past 40 years by naming naming specific areas after them. It was wonderful to pay tribute to their contributions to the School as they unveiled their plaques last night.

The entire building has been named the John Roberts Centre after Mr John Roberts who served as a Director, Secretary and Treasurer of the Redlands Board from 1976 to 1997. John played a key role in guiding the School in the establishment of SCEGGS Redlands Limited, the expansion into coeducation, the introduction of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the acquisition of the Cremorne Girls High School, now the Junior Campus, and the acquisition and development of High Country Campus. After John unveiled the plaque and cut the ribbon to declare the building officially open, the audience was in awe of the heartfelt speech of thanks from a gentleman who will shortly celebrate his 100th birthday.

The Edwards Auditorium has been named after Dr Kim and Mrs Jennifer Edwards. Dr Kim Edwards served as a Director of Redlands from 1997 to 2018 and was a member of the Physical Resources Group and Marketing Committee. Kim and Jennifer also played a leading role in the Redlands Parents and Friends Association during their association with the School, each serving terms as President.

Finally, the Brown Music Room has been named after Mr Kevin Brown, who served as a Director of Redlands from 2006 to 2017, was Deputy Chair of the Board from 2009 to 2017 and Chair of the Nominations and Marketing Committees.

I particularly enjoyed the musical items performed by students last night, especially the world premiere of the work Sonnets to Orpheus composed to celebrate the opening of the building by Redlander Jack Frerer, Class of 2013, who is currently studying Music at The Julliard School in New York. Although Jack was unable to attend the evening, we were delighted that his mother Vicki and his grandmother were on hand to hear the inaugural performance of his work.

I wish to thank the Redlands Board for their support and guidance in developing this magnificent teaching and learning facility, the many people involved in its construction, including our architects, builders, project managers and Facilities team, Mr Darren Kuilenburg and the Music staff. I especially thank and pay tribute to all of the Redlands parents and other members of the Redlands community whose very generous donations have contributed to wonderful new Music facilities and associated equipment.

Visual Arts Exhibition

Last night also saw the official opening of our annual Visual Arts Exhibition, a showcase of the major works from our HSC Visual Arts students as well as artworks from Year 3-11 students.  I was very impressed with the quality and diversity of artworks on display and enjoyed the very informative journey of how our students creative and artistic skills are developed throughout our Junior and Secondary School Visual Arts programs.

Extra Curricular Achievements

Our Redlands students have been to the fore over the past week, achieving some wonderful successes on the stage and the sporting field. Firstly congratulations to our Senior Contemporary Dance Group which placed 2nd in the Grand Final of the Sydney Eisteddfod’s Secondary School Contemporary/ Classical Group event last Sunday, an exceptional achievement.

On the Sporting field, four of our teams finished the Winter sports season as ISA Champions. I congratulate the Girls 1sts and 2nds Hockey teams, the Junior A Netball team and the Junior A Girls Football team for winning their ISA Grand Finals. Redlands was also crowned ISA Netball Champion School due to the combined results of our 1sts, Inter A and Junior A teams which finished 3rd, 2nd and 1st respectively in their competitions.

The Thredbo slopes saw some excellent results from our 80 strong Snowsports team who competed in the NSW Interschools. In total our team achieved 26 podium finishes, with 9 Gold, 7 Silver and 10 Bronze Medals.  Congratulations to the whole team and especially to our State Champions:

It was also excellent to see our Div 1 Boys team achieving Silver in Div 1 Boys Skier Cross and Bronze in Div 1 Alpine, as for nearly all of these students, it is their last year at Redlands.

I sincerely thank all of our Dance tutors and Sports coaches, Coordinator of Dance, Karen Martin, Head of Secondary School Sport Tom Kindred, and Coordinator of Snowsports, Bruce Campbell, for working with and motivating our students to achieve these excellent results.

NAPLAN Results

On Tuesday 28 August ACARA released the NAPLAN 2018 Summary Information. This summary provides the preliminary results at the national, state and territory level for each school year tested (Years 3, 5, 7 and 9) and for all domains that were assessed.  A link to the summary can be found here.

Individual Student Reports are yet to be released. ACARA has advised that, “As NAPLAN is in a period of transition and this is the first year where students completed either a pen and paper test or an online test, extra attention is being given to reviewing the data and how the results compare between the paper and online testing.”

We understand that NESA will contact schools to advise when results are expected to be released but at this stage the date remains unknown. We will keep you informed of any further updates.

Head of Secondary School

Winter Sports Update

It was an exciting day of ISA Finals last Saturday with a number of teams competing at venues across Sydney. I would like to acknowledge all teams who were competing on Saturday for the positive way they represented the School in their respective matches and specifically congratulate the Girls Football Junior A team, the Netball Junior A team and the Hockey 1st XI and Open B teams for winning their Grand Finals on the weekend.

I was also proud to see the support of parents, staff and especially students at the numerous fixtures I attended on the weekend. Not only did it provide positive encouragement for the players, but it also illustrated the wonderful school spirit which is increasingly being seen across so many different activities at Redlands.

Arts Update

Last night was a wonderful celebration of the arts at Redlands with the official opening of the John Roberts Music Centre and the opening of the Yr 12 HSC Visual Arts display. I know for many parents it was their first opportunity to see the excellent new facilities which our Music students have been using this year. Many of our students were performing at the Music Centre opening or sharing the culmination of a year’s effort through their Visual Arts major works. In addition, on Monday evening the Yr 12 HSC and IB students delighted the audience in a performance of their major works in their Music Showcase. All of these events once again illustrated that the arts at Redlands continually provides amazing opportunities for students to share their passions, develop their creativity and step out of their comfort zones – all of which further develop their life readiness. Bravo to all involved.

Service Learning Update

There are a number of Service learning activities taking place at Redlands this term illustrating the selfless efforts of our students to help others. Last Thursday, Yr 11 students Zoe Kimber and Freddie McKewen organised a “Five for a Farmer” sausage sizzle and bake sale on the Senior Campus to raise money for NSW farmers who have been struggling through the extreme drought this year. Yr 11 students Jasmine Chubb, Sienna Kerr, Alice MacDonald and Lindsay McNeil have been coordinating the Kids Need Books book drive in the Junior School collecting approximately 900 children’s books to be shipped to Vietnam for a community library. And our Yr 12 students, led by Emma Woodward, are urging members of the Redlands community to join them in participating in the Blackmores 10km run on Sunday 16 September to raise money for Headspace and awareness for mental health. Donations can be made here and students, parents and staff can sign up to run here. I would like to acknowledge these students and the countless others who are regularly giving back to others through Service activities at Redlands.

Book Week

Over the past fortnight the Secondary School Library has organised a number of events to celebrate Book Week, including various author visits. On Tuesday 14 August, Michael Adams (author of the popular Seven Signs series) spoke to Yr 7 classes sharing some of his insights and approaches to his craft, while last Wednesday, author and journalist Pip Harry spoke to staff and students about some of her experiences as a writer. I would like to thank Ms Curtis and the Library staff for their efforts in bringing in these speakers and continuing to foster the love of reading in our students.

Chaplain

Winter School is an essential part of our School program. The Chaplain visited the students and staff last week and was encouraged by the students care and concern for each other. The students participated in a Chapel time on the Saturday where they sang, prayed and reflected on Psalm 63 and the concept of God being the rock of our life.

Chapel was the final activity on an afternoon of community activities. First, the students participated in a STEM activity solving engineering puzzles that required hypothesising, testing and modification of plans to meet the requirements of the building project. There were bridges of straws that needed to support a book, towers of marshmallows and spaghetti, ferris wheels that needed to moved, catapults and scarecrows. The students worked collaboratively to creatively solve these problems, demonstrating our culture of thinking.

Secondly, students were offered a range of activities to clear the mind and reduce stress. Bushwalks, colouring in, touch football or meditation were all offered so that students could select the one that would help them most.

Thirdly, students and staff gathered as a whole community in a worship time at Chapel. It was wonderful to see students singing, reflecting and praying.

It was also great to have some discussions with students about the faith questions and to hear their thinking and understanding about the God of the bible.

Drought Relief Fundraiser

Congratulations to the Yr 11 students who organised and contributed to a very successful Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall last Thursday. They raised almost $1400. There was a beautiful spread of cakes and slices and lots of willing helpers on the day. Some of the Yr 11 students also took time to visit all Year Groups to help inform the student body about the drought and its implications. It was great to see them making important links to their academic studies in Geography, Environmental Science and Economics as part of these presentations.

Volunteers for Spring Fair – 15 September

The Spring Fair is always a fun day out. Student volunteers are sought from Yrs 9 – 11 to help out on the day. There are already three stalls being run by Yr 11 teams but other students are encouraged to volunteer some time to support the school community. Sign up here.

Fiji Service Learning Trip

A group of Yr 9 students are now in the final weeks of preparing for their trip to Fiji in the coming holidays. These students have been completing journal reflections as they prepare for the trip. They will be visiting a highland community, staying with local families and doing some project work. This is a great opportunity for cultural exchange and learning. Students have been fundraising for this project by doing odd jobs for family and friends. In addition, they will also be spending some time on the coast and learning about the environmental impacts of tourism and climate change on these communities, applying some of their Science and Geography knowledge.

There are many events during this time and parents are encouraged to refer to the email sent from the Secondary School Office that outlines the timetable for Weeks 7-10.

A Touch of Class

Our cohort have been outstanding role models throughout their time in the Secondary School. We are determined to finish the year with the same class they have maintained throughout the past six years. Students have been strongly encouraged to maintain their uniform until the very last day and ensure they adopt appropriate behaviour throughout their final few weeks.

In Yrs 7-10, mobile phones and BYOD devices are not be used around school grounds during recess and lunch. It is recommended mobile phones are left in locked lockers for the school day. While smart phones are often important communication devices for families and can effectively be used for learning purposes at school, they can also have detrimental impacts on student interactions and overall wellbeing.

Mobile phones are not to be used in class unless directed by their teacher for learning purposes. Consequences for misuse of mobile phone/technology/device might include confiscation of  the mobile phone for the day (picked up at Secondary School Office at end of the day) or a detention.

Grand Finals

Congratulations to all our students who competed in the Grand Final matches. Well done to all the girls who won the Junior A Girls Football, ISA Junior A Netball and the 1sts Hockey and 2nds Hockey teams who also won their Grand Final games.

Emma Mahon competed for the U16 Athletics NSW team at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Maleny, Queensland over the weekend. The course was beautiful, challenging and hilly. Emma had a strong run, finishing midfield in 16:27 minutes (49th position out of 79 girls). She was pleased to be the 5th placed U16 ANSW Girls’ team, finishing the Cross Country season on a positive note, achieving her best placing of the season.

Jonah Koppers competed in the CAS Athletics invitational on Saturday and ran a six second PB in the 15 Years 800m to finish in 3rd place in the championship event. Well done to Rachel Kinghorn, Beau Davies, Amelie Archer, Riley Felton and Samuel Harrap who also competed at the Invitational Carnival.

Athletics

This Friday night, Emma Mahon, Lauren Wong, Olivia Donoghue and Liberty Jacob will be competing at the Nitro Schools Knockout in the Intermediate Girls’ team. Nitro Schools Challenge is a team based competition with a mixture of new and traditional events. It is school against school, with a new point scoring table and opportunities to be strategic. Larger teams and more events mean that it is about working together and having fun. Best wishes to our Intermediate Girls’ team.

Pastoral Focus

This week our Pastoral focus in on turning ‘setbacks into triumphs’ and ‘unmasking your potential’. Students watched a TEDX Video which featured ultra-marathon runner, Turia Pitt, who received horrific burns in a bush fire during an ultra-marathon in the Kimberleys. Students have reflected upon Turia’s ‘can do’ attitude, from surmounting the hurdles of rehabilitation to her positive life focus that she maintains today.

HICES

“HICES was amazing. It was a really great experience to be playing music with other people my age who loved it as much as I did. The opportunity to learn new pieces under the direction of such wonderful instructors, musicians and teachers was an amazing opportunity. The facilities provided by the HICES campus allowed my stay to be comfortable and a wonderful learning experience. The final concert at the Town Hall was an incredible experience. I look forward to trying out again next year!” Eden Borrie

NSW Snowsports Interschools

“NSW Interschools was an amazing experience where we got to become better at the sport and meet people who enjoy the sport as much as I do. It was also a great experience to become closer with my own team and learn new tips from them. When we were racing it was also great to come to the finish and know that your teammates were at the bottom ready to cheer you on”. Ben Harrington

Netball

“Our Netball season was a huge success this year. We were all dedicated and committed to weekly training and games and all put in the time and effort. It was amazing to play with people who loved the sport as much as me and wanted to learn and improve. We all put in an incredible amount of effort for our Grand Final, with the finishing score being 41-27. I have loved my experience of Netball this year and hope that everyone in my team goes for the Summer Netball Program at the Willoughby Club”. Jemma Davies

Athletics

“Rex Brook, Shaun Patrick and Sasha Jansz competed in the first Invitational Athletics Carnival hosted by St Aloysius at Sydney Olympic Park last Saturday. Rex Brook ran a quick time of 11:08 in the Opens 3000m and is hoping to improve next Saturday at the second Athletics Invitational. Shaun Patrick threw 8.55m in the Shotput and 19.14m in the Discus which places him well for the ISA Athletics Carnival. Sasha Jansz had a strong throw of 19.14m in the 14 Years girls Discus which also places her well for the ISA Athletics Carnival. The second Invitational Athletics Carnival will be at E.S Marks this Saturday”. Mr Nick Walker

Pastoral Care Focus

This week, students continue with the focus on Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The principle behind this habit is that mental creation precedes physical creation. All things are created twice. We create them first in our minds, and then we work to bring them into physical existence. By taking control of our own first creation, we can write or re-write our own scripts, thus taking some control and responsibility for the outcome.

Snowsports Nationals

Congratulations to Nicolas Fitzhenry, Ethan McFarlane, Julia Murphy and Sienna Wessels for qualifying for Snowsports Nationals, which will be held next week at Perisher.

Sport

For our NSNA Netball teams, Sports Finals continue for the next couple of weeks and if available, pop along to provide your support. Redlands sporting fixtures are released weekly and are available on Redlands Pulse. Pictured this week is the U13A Boys’ Football team at their final last week. Athletics also had a meet over the weekend and we had some wonderful results. Pictured is Lachlan Binnekamp at the long jump pit; Lockie achieved two PBs. Summer sport started this week, it’s fantastic to see so many students involved in two representative sports this year. We thoroughly hope students enjoy the upcoming sporting season and the opportunities that Rep and Non-Rep sport present.

Behaviour Awareness Survey

You may be aware that Yr 7 completed the annual Behaviour Awareness Survey this week.

The Survey is anonymous, the aim being to collect data from the student body about the Redlands school climate. The Survey gives students the opportunity to provide feedback on the school environment and to acknowledge students which contribute positively to Redlands or voice concerns. Once data is collected, this is provided to the Year Advisor, Head of Secondary School, Counsellor and the Dean of Students.

Self Care

With the number of assessments due this week, Yr 7 are looking forward to a rest over the weekend. During Pastoral Care on Wednesday students discussed stress management and nine tips on how to cope during times of increased responsibility. Students also conducted gratitude activities with their Tutor Group.

Whilst sporting commitments and assessments continue, we ask that you prioritise some self care activities (away from computers and small devices) for your child over the weekend. Suggestions include a family movie, cooking session, time outside and of course some extra sleep. You may find ReachOut’s article How to be Awesome at Self Care useful.

Staffing News

This week is the final week for Yr 3 teacher, Mrs Leila Snooks, who commences her maternity leave. We look forward to hearing of Mrs Snooks’ impending arrival and wish her a restful time in the final weeks of her pregnancy. As Class 3S parents are already aware, we are delighted to welcome back Mrs Trisha Morgan to Redlands. Mrs Morgan is a highly experienced teacher who worked as a classroom teacher here in Yrs 3 and 4 between 2011 and 2014 before leaving to have her first daughter. She then worked as a casual teacher for us for a couple of years before relocating back to New Zealand for a period of time but is now back in Sydney again. I know she will be a familiar face to some families already and I know our community will join me in welcoming her back to Redlands.

Thinking Ahead

As a new initiative for Yr 6 last year, we welcomed the first group of Yr 6 parents to share their experiences of their professions, how their careers and industries have changed over time and what their professions may look like in the future, if they are likely to exist at all. This opportunity for parents to be an active part of their children’s learning in Thinking Ahead, as the sessions have been titled, has been wonderfully received by the students and staff and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the sessions I have been able to attend. These sessions have continued this year and again, it has been wonderful for this year’s Yr 6 students to hear about a range of possible careers from the parent group.

Over the course of these sessions, what has been evident has been the importance of the need to develop the personal attributes we actively seek to foster such as resilience, communication skills, questioning, a collaborative mindset, problem solving, teamwork and the confidence to fail in learning. This week, one of our Yr 6 parents, Andrew Petering, spoke of his role as CEO of Nexus Hospitals, and in particular, I share the information below that Mr Petering presented to the students as what he sees have been some of the key shifts in learning and education, which he highlighted align with Redlands philosophies and approach as he has seen his son learning.

As always, I am grateful for the expertise and partnership with our parents as we combine to guide students’ thinking and learning and help them to become life-ready through a contemporary education.

Father’s Day Breakfast

We look forward to welcoming Junior Campus dads for breakfast tomorrow to kick start the Father’s Day weekend.

Book Week

Last Friday, the School was awash with a sea of colour and creativity as Junior School students enjoyed the opportunity to dress up for Book Character Day. Connected to this, our students joined Early Childhood and Secondary School to donate monies to the farming community and we were able to contribute $700 from the Junior School towards the School’s overall fundraising efforts.

Tomorrow, we are extremely excited to be hosting the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2018 and 2019, Morris Gleitzman. This is a great coup for Redlands and most importantly, for the Junior School children and staff to hear from him about story writing and his inspirations for his writing.

Redlands Snowsports

Our Snowsports team of 80 students from all sections of our School competed with great energy and commitment for all of last week at the State Championships, competing against more than 300 schools in NSW. As well as acknowledging them, I also extend my sincere gratitude to staff and parents for their commitment of time and effort to supporting the students in their on-snow pursuits.

As always, many students recorded personal bests and deserve the accolades for their significant achievements and with numerous podium finishes, we are delighted that a number of Junior School students have been selected to compete at next week’s National Championships as listed, a wonderful achievement for them all: Isabelle Bannon, Josie Bannon, Julianna Harrington, Ava Keller, Julius Keller, Gianmarco Pradel, Liam McFarlane, Mia McFarlane, Felicity Schlederer, Seb Speziali, Daisy Thomas and Penny Vincent-McGovern

From the snow, Mr Aghion who was one of our teachers present, shared a great example of school spirit as well as compassion with me, which was heartwarming to hear. As our Yr 6 boys’ team neared the end of their Alpine race, the team was perfectly poised to take a top 3 finish. With one run to go, Gianmarco Pradel was skiing his final run with great speed and determination but approaching one of the final bends, his excited team mates saw him take a fall and come off his skis. The boys’ first thought was of the welfare of their teammate and Mr Aghion watched Julius Keller and Liam McFarlane race up to check on Gianmarco, completely oblivious to the final team placing which was of little interest to them now in comparison to their friend’s safety. Mr Aghion said it gave him great pride as it showed a genuine act of compassion, irrespective of the importance of the race and was a wonderful demonstration of our School Values to the rest of the field.

HICES Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to our Junior School Athletics team who competed at Tuesday’s HICES Athletics Carnival. Competing against 15 other schools from across the State, our girls and boys ran, jumped and threw superbly and narrowly finished as runners-up in Division 1. From here, a number of our Redlands students have been selected to compete for HICES at the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Carnival and we wish them all the very best at this next level of competition.

For the second year in succession, Redlands hosted this prestigious event and I acknowledge the outstanding planning and preparation from Head of Junior School Sport, Mr Carter, ably supported by PE colleagues. In addition, we had a number of students from Yrs 5 and 6 who acted as student helpers on the day. Mr Carter received numerous positive comments of feedback from visiting officials and teachers about how wonderful a job they did, not only as an important support for the carnival but also as representatives of Redlands.

Jump Rope for Heart

It has been wonderful to see the students enthusiastically practising their skipping tricks at any given opportunity throughout the day, showing so much improvement over the course of the term. Next week, I will spend time being a student in Class 4M which was one of the outcomes when we reached the $20,000 fundraising mark as a school. With our current total at $33,003 for the Heart Foundation, we are very excited to welcome Skipping Australia in towards the end of term for a performance. Thank you for your fundraising efforts for this worthwhile cause and please continue to share your child’s Jump Rope for Heart page with friends and family. The students are very eager to see many of the teachers skipping at assembly when we reach the $40,000 mark!

Flexischools and Healthy Canteen Menu

As you would be aware, our Junior Campus Canteen moved to the Flexischools online ordering system a number of weeks ago and we are pleased with the positive feedback that has been received from families. As we begin to look at the second iteration of our Healthy Menu on the Junior Campus, I do encourage you to share any feedback on this online ordering system or the menu itself via email to me for us to consider as we plan for Term 4.

Kindy Gymnastics

As a new curriculum initiative for 2018, we were pleased to introduce a Gymnastics lesson into the Kindergarten program. The integration of Gymnastics is widely known to improve body management and control, and aids in the development of gross motor and manipulative skills. Gymnastics promotes coordination, flexibility, agility, muscular strength, endurance and bone strength; all essential in the physical development of young children. Extended participation in Gymnastics classes also provides many additional cognitive and psychological benefits that will continue to benefit an individual throughout their life, such as social interaction and discipline, improved mental focus and concentration. All students are thoroughly enjoying their one hour per week sessions with a dedicated team of Gymnastics coaches.

Music Centre and Visual Arts Exhibition Opening Night

I had the pleasure of attending the dedication and official opening of the Music Centre and Visual Arts Exhibition on the Senior Campus on Wednesday evening. Mr Kevin Brown along with Dr and Mrs Edwards, all serving on the School Board and members of the parent school community for many years, were honoured with a plaque and a room dedication. The new building will be named after Mr John Roberts, founding Secretary and Treasurer of the School. Mr Roberts was one of three trustees instrumental in enabling the School to be a fully independent governance in 1976. Mr Roberts’ wife, Mrs Margaret Roberts, was an active contributor in the School, a past member of SCECGS herself and a life member of the Old Girls’ Union. She held a continuous parent association from 1958-1974 and our magnificent Preparatory Building was named to commemorate her life and work and also to symbolise recognition of the valuable contributions to the School of all mothers past, present and future. The evening gave reverence to the special place that Music holds in the history of Redlands. A very poignant moment was when Head of Music, Mr Darren Kuilenburg, conducted a piece of music composed by ex-student, Jack Frerer (Alumni 2013, now at The Julliard School) who explored the lyrical content of a poem that resonated with him through conversations with his former English teacher at Redlands. The piece was performed beautifully by the School’s Chamber Choir and Piano Quartet, tutored by Ms Anne-Marie Braid. Dr Lennox and Chair of the School’s Board, Mrs Glenda McLoughlin, made special mention of the many people who contributed to the building of the Music Centre and I add my appreciation for the generosity of our whole school community.

Following on from the Music Centre opening, the Arts Department, led by Mr Mark Harpley, shared some meaningful reflections about the Yr 12 art works along with a spectacular exhibition from Yrs 3-12. From a performance and arts perspective, the Prep students have so many wonderful things to look forward to as they journey through the School.

Ski Champions

Last week 60 Redlands teams participated in the NSW State Interschool Championship for multi-discipline snowsports events. 80 students from K-12 were courageous in the face of ever increasing strength of competition from more than 300 schools in NSW. We are very proud of the 48 individuals qualifying for the National event next week in Perisher. I particularly congratulate our youngest competitors: Pauline Korolev, Melanie Korolev, April Oatley, Aiden Schlederer, Ellie To and Jake Mears, who proudly represented Redlands. It is such a wonderful achievement for these students.

Flexischools and Healthy Canteen Menu

The Canteen moved to the Flexischools online ordering system a number of weeks ago and we are pleased with the effectiveness of the system and the positive feedback that has been received. As we begin to look at the second iteration of our Healthy Menu on the Junior Campus, we welcome all feedback in regards to the new online ordering and menu to afellowes@redlands.nsw.edu.au.

Kindy Construction

Kindergarten are undertaking woodwork this term, as part of the Kindergarten Science Unit Let’s Build, derived from the Australian Curriculum Early Stage One section What’s it Made of?. Woodwork provides the students with a hands-on, shared experience discovering the properties of materials. The woodwork unit also builds all-important learning dispositions, Responsible Risk Taking, Persistence and Creating, Imagining and Innovating. Thank you to the parents who are volunteering with this experience and donating materials, without whom valuable activities such as these wouldn’t be possible.

Father’s Day Morning

Tomorrow we are hosting a Father’s Day breakfast and activity morning beginning at 7.45am. A continental breakfast will be served in the Piazza with a short activity morning to follow in the Prep classrooms.

Clubs

A reminder that the last Clubs for Term 3 will be held on Wednesday 12 September. Clubs will not be held in Week 9 and 10 due to Yr 2 Camp.

Yr 2 Curriculum Camp (Thursday 20 – Friday 21 September)

The detailed letter regarding the Yr 2 Curriculum Camp was emailed to families earlier this week. It has also been uploaded to Redlands Pulse, as have the additional medical forms that you may need for your child (eg. asthma, allergies, dietary needs etc.). These documents can all be accessed here. The Redlands Permission form was sent home with your child this week. Please finalise the Redlands Permission form, the online consent for Land’s Edge as well as any additional medical forms needed specifically for your child by Monday 3 September.

Jump Rope for Heart

At the Preparatory assembly this week, students were very lucky to have a visit from Maia Healey, Yr 7 Redlands student. Maia has just returned from competing in the World Skipping Championships in China and demonstrated some fabulous techniques to the Preparatory students, along with giving them a few skipping tips. It was a wonderful occasion for Maia to show the students that skipping provides so many opportunities as well as health benefits and can even take you all over the world.

It has been delightful to see the students enthusiastically practising their skipping tricks at any given opportunity throughout the day, showing so much improvement over the course of the term. They have also been busy fundraising and have currently raised $33,003 for the Heart Foundation. Now we have reached over $30,000, the students are very excited to welcome Skipping Australia in towards the end of term for a short performance. Thank you for your fundraising efforts for this worthwhile cause and please continue to share your child’s Jump Rope for Heart page with friends and family. The students are very eager to see teachers skipping at assembly when we reach the $40,000 mark!

Spring Fair

The Redlands Spring Fair is less than three weeks now and I encourage all families to ensure that 15 September on the Junior Campus is in your diaries. The Spring Fair has always been one of the school’s largest and most joyful events, and 15 September is going to be a fantastic day of carnival fun and enjoyment overflowing with food, rides, games, markets and prizes for the whole Redlands community – staff, students, families and alumni.

This year we have nine rides and many carnival games that are suitable for a range of ages, including adults. Bubble soccer is back due to popular demand – so grab your team of six and register now. Be ready to launch into Carnival Fun and beat the queues on the day of the Fair by pre-purchasing your wristbands and coupons. The Spring Fair is largely cashless and all stalls accept coupons.

This Saturday, donations for second hand clothing and toys will be accepted in the undercover Prep carpark on Allister Street. You will notice a car spot allocated for these donations. Thank you to the parents who are organising the collection, organisation and storage of these goods.

Allergies

This year at Redlands House we have children enrolled who are at risk to anaphylaxis in response to the following foods: eggs, tree nuts, sesame seeds – including hummus, tahini and sushi with sesame on it, and uncooked dairy.

We request that all families enrolled support these children by limiting items that contain any of the above ingredients at Preschool.

Dog Safety Program

Next week the Senior classes will participate in the Responsible Pet Education Program. This program will assist the children to develop skills and strategies for dealing with dogs, and how to stay safe around dogs.  Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world. Educating children ensures the child-pet relationship is not only physically and emotionally rewarding but also a safe one. The program allows children to become better prepared when dealing with dogs outside the home and throughout the community.

Father’s Day

This year, Preschool are hosting an activity morning to celebrate Father’s Day on Friday 31 August. The Preschool drop off will be at the usual time and we look forward to welcoming fathers who would like to stay and join in the morning’s activities. Mornings such as these can be busy, a reminder to give some thought to our neighbours and be vigilant with parking in the surrounding areas.

Redlands Spring Fair

The Redlands Rhino visited Redlands House this morning to get the children excited for the Spring Fair on 15 September. The children will be decorating pots this week that can be purchased at the Spring Fair.

Grand Finals

On a cold and otherwise dreary Saturday, across multiple venues, across a wide variety of sports, anyone who went out to support their peers or children got a chance to see why Sport in general is such a crucial part of Redlands and our greater community. From the rain soaked Hockey pitches of Moorebank to the boot torn Rugby fields of Oakhill College, the entire weekend was a celebration of Redlands.

To be on the sidelines as our Hockey Girls celebrated incredible wins against Oakhill and Central Coast Grammar, to see the amazing sense of joy from these athletes as they all fought to the very end, was the start to what was a wonderful weekend. It was a tough 2-1 win against a previously undefeated CCGS side. One of the lasting images was the scene at the last whistle as Redlands Girls from all different age groups came together as a complete squad and celebrated, Year 12 Girls being embraced by the next in line or even younger.

At Olympic Park the Junior A Netball team played an almost perfect game against Chevalier. Our Redlands Girls worked together as a team rather than individuals to put away the opposition. Netball is one of the most brilliant sports for athletic development, teaching spatial awareness, hand eye coordination and communication. It can be seen as a credit to the coaching with the way in which our girls presented these skills, knowing their roles of attack and defence.

We often try and quantify the effect sport has on students, using criteria like numbers to the sport and or wins and losses. Not enough can be said about the emotional and somewhat holistic response that sport can have, especially as it relates to schoolboy and schoolgirl athletes. I was immensely proud in the level of sportsmanship I witnessed across the entire day across all of the sports that Redlands athletes participated in. Gracious in victory, magnanimous in defeat, Redlands were near perfect. It is an incredibly hard task to set, for young students, to win that final game, to have that level of elation and immediately lower it to shake the oppositions hand. We also had to experience the other side of the coin, having that last whistle signal defeat and yet, needing to pick ourselves off the ground to congratulate the other team.

For our Rugby team this was certainly the case as our team were outlasted by Chevalier. Down to the last five minutes, the Redlands 1stXV were still in the match, battered under the weight of Chevalier possession, our team continued to pick themselves up off the ground to go again in defence. When that final whistle blew, bodies dropped to the ground from exhaustion and defeat, there wasn’t a single 1stXV jersey that wasn’t covered in mud. Slowly but surely, the boys picked themselves off the ground to congratulate a Chevalier side which played the game brilliantly.

At Blacktown our Junior A Girls Football showed poise and composure to finish the season as undefeated ISA champions, an historic achievement. Our 1sts Girls Football showed determination and discipline to compete against Oakhill to hold them to a 3-0 score line, the lowest Oakhill has been held to all year. Our 13As Boys team also showed that Redlands Football has a strong future ahead of it with a well drilled and structured performance against St Pius.

I would like to think that anyone who witnessed any of the games across the weekend could see the progress made in Redlands Sport, especially in terms of student support. At the Blacktown International Sports Centre, we saw a line of navy blazers, Senior and Junior boys and girls, tunnelling our 1st XI Girls Football out to the middle. At Willoughby Netball Courts we saw whole teams arrive hours before their own games to support their peers and the teams playing before. The Rugby had a tunnel that stretched out to halfway comprising of parents, students and even our wonderful Junior representatives. The cheers of Redlands echoed all the way through the Olympic Park venue.

I look forward to seeing our Summer sports share in the same passion and enthusiasm.

Athletics

Redlands competed in their first Invitational Athletics Carnival hosted by St Aloysius. The invitational carnival is an excellent opportunity for Redlands athletes to develop their confidence, competing in a competitive yet friendly environment against other independent schools from across NSW. For many of our junior throwers and runners, competing was very valuable as they were able to learn how to start a race correctly, and how to throw a javelin, discus or shot put properly. Some of the highlights on the day included Thomas Graetz  (Yr 7) jumping 1:43 in the 13 years High Jump, Jonah Koppers (Yr 9) running a 6 second PB in the 800m in a fast time of 2:10 to finish in 3rd place in the Championship U/15s 800m, Lachlan Binnekamp, winning his heat of the 13 years 400m in a pb of 103.6, LuLu Simpson (Yr 10) finishing in first place in the 200m in a time of 28.8, Beau Davies (Yr 9) running his first 200m ever in a decent time of 28.13 and Monique Pascoe (Yr 10) throwing 9.30m in the 16 years Shot put.

Next weekend will be a big weekend of Athletics for Redlands with the Nitro Series event on Friday night and the 2nd invitational carnival at ES Marks Athletics track on Saturday.

Congratulations to Zach Johnson who competed in the Pub 2 Pub (Dee Why to Newport) 6k over the weekend and finished in first place in 25.42.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Emma Mahon (Yr 9) who ran at the National Cross Country Championships, held on the Sunshine Coast last weekend. Emma finished in 49th place for the U15/16 age group which is a fantastic achievement!

Basketball

Pre-season Basketball is well underway. We have Monday morning training for the boys and Wednesday morning training for the girls until we commence the Summer Sports season. Please see the details below:

Monday 6.00-7.00am – boys interested in trialing for 1sts (followed by a 7.00-8.00am strength and conditioning session in the gym)
Monday 7.00-8.00am – all other boys
Wednesday 7.00-8.00am – girls only

If you would like to attend these sessions please email kseebohm@redlands.nsw.edu.au.

Football

After a great weekend of Semi Finals we had three teams qualify for the Grand Final.

The Junior Boys 13As were confident they could match Oakhill and come away with a win vs Pius but had to play solidly the whole game. There was not much in it, with either side competing at every moment. At the end, two free kicks outside the box, over our wall and above our GK made the difference in the first half 1-0 and another one in the second half made it 2-0. There were no goals created by general play but they all count in the end. Redlands tried very hard but at the end St Pius had a little more in the tank and maintained their intensity until the end and deserved to get a win. Congratulations to our boys. It has been a very good season playing in ISA Division 1 and progressing through to the Grand Final in their first year in Secondary School, which shows promise for the future of Football at Redlands.

The Grand Final for the Junior A Girls had the ingredients for a cracking game between the teams which finished 1st and 2nd during the normal competition. The game started with Central Coast creating one or two chances but the Redlands defence did very well to stop them from scoring. Our girls responded and a few minutes later moved forward and hit a shot straight into the roof of the net making 1-0. Our girls kept playing well passing and switching play as well as stopping everything that Central Coast threw at them. Midway through the second half, the girls again did some combination play in the middle of the park to score another goal to make it 2-0 at half time. The Girls followed instructions from the coach at half time and kept possession for a majority of the game, finishing with a final score of 2-0. A fantastic season for our Junior Girls who finished Minor Premiers and were undefeated all year. Congratulations girls!

The First XI girls this year had a few things to work out and we believed that we were good enough to make semis and win the ISA Grand Final .  After a great semi to beat Barker 1-0 the team was ready for what would be a tough assignment against the Minor Premiers Oakhill College.  This was the third time Redlands First XI girls made the Grand Final since the inception of ISA Girls Football.

The game started very well for us and our  preparation paid off. During the week the girls trained well and knew that stopping and dealing with  the long balls from the Oakhill defenders to their strong fast forwards was going to be our key to stay in the game. With 5 minutes to go before half time Oakhill received a free kick and a bomb went above our defence and goal keep straight in the net at 1-0 down half time. Two brilliant moments by Oakhill players in the second half and put us 3-0 at the final whistle.  Redlands girls kept playing till the very end and gave everything they could . Congratulations the Girls and to Coach Pablo.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Year 12 girls for their commitment to Football for the last 6 years at Redlands, Hannah Johns, Emma Woodward and Claudia Wilson and we wish them well for their futures

Thank you all for your support to Redlands Football

If you have not yet registered to attend the End of Season Football Presentation, details are: Friday 14 September from 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start at Dee Why RSL. RSVP: Thursday 6 September. Register here.

Hockey

What a weekend! A huge congratulation to the girls and coaches of the 1sts and 2nds teams who won their respective Grand Finals. I would also like to thank the Yr 7 and 8 girls from the Girls 3rds team who travelled out to Moorebank to cheer on the teams playing. Your efforts were not unnoticed.

1sts are Grand Final Winners! In a hard-fought game against Central Coast Grammar School, the girl’s skill and determination really shone through. Two early goals from Sophie and Elise gave us a lead that CCGS could never catch. Through terrible weather and a challenging opponent, the girls came out on top. The work ethic, skill and teamwork of the team was outstanding and we are proud of how far they have come as a team and individuals this season. Congratulations to both the Senior 1st and 2nd teams for the Grand Final wins! See main photo.

2nds are Grand Final Winners! The game was hard fought with Oakhill having numerous subs against our two subs. However, the girls prevailed and were able to hold off Oakhill with a 2-1 win. It was a fantastic end to the season with the all the girls showing off their fight, resilience, and their skills. Well done to the girls and thank you parents for all the help that was vital to the success this season. It was a picture-perfect ending to the season with the premiership back in Redlands hands.

Please celebrate the end of the Hockey season at Cammeray Golf Course with us on Thursday 13 September. There will be a buffet meal plus awards for the Hockey program. The doors will be open from 5.30pm with formalities running from 6.00 to 7.30pm. To book tickets, please click here.

Netball

Saturday saw the end of the ISA Netball Competition. I am pleased to announce that Redlands has won the ISA Netball School Championship Shield for 2018, this is a fantastic achievement and all teams, coaches and parents should be extremely proud.

Our Inter A team took on a strong CCGS team, who had finished in top position for the 2018 season. It was going to be a tough game and from the outset CCGS looked to dominate possession. They jumped out to a strong first quarter lead, Redlands looked to peg back the difference in the 2nd quarter and managed to keep goal for goal. CCGS kicked out to a fast start in the 3rd and didn’t look back. Unfortunately our girls went down 31-48, but the girls should be extremely proud of their efforts this season.

Our Junior A team were up against Chevalier. The girls knew this Grand Final was going to be a tough match, and tough it was. The opening quarters saw each team go end to end goal for goal, with Chev leading by 1 at the first quarter and Redlands leading by 1 at half time. The Junior A girls looked to dominate the 3rd quarter and were able to capitalise on some Chev mistakes and remain calm when bringing the ball into their attacking third. Redlands kicked out to an 8 goal lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, and from there they just built the pressure, running away with the match in the 4th quarter to win 41-27.

Our Junior B team had a tough assignment on their hands against Chevalier, who from the outset wanted to cause an upset. Both teams were going goal for goal and end to end, which led for some exciting play in the first half. Chevalier jumped out to a 3 goal lead, but Redlands quickly reeled that in and to start the 4th quarter, had jumped to a small lead of their own. Chevalier narrowed the margin back to 1 in the 4th quarter. The Redlands girls looked to control possession and remained calm, this however wasn’t to be with Chev taking the game 41-45. The Junior B girls have had a remarkable season this year, growing and developing as a team throughout the season, they should all be very proud!

On Saturday we have five of our NSNA teams in Semi Finals. NSNA 9 Navy were in a tough elimination final against NSGHS 17. They were looking to capitalise on the strong performances in the back half of the season, which they did, taking the match 36-33 finishing the season in 3rd place moving them into next week’s Preliminary final. NSNA 8 Blue have had a great season finishing on top of the table. They had a very tough match against NSGHS 24 but the girls pulled out a gutsy win taking the match 17-16 which allowed them to move straight in the Grand Final. Our NSNA 7 Navy team had a tough game on their hands. MCC 16 finished on top of the table the and the girls were keen to upset the minor premiers with some patient netball. The final quarter was very exciting to watch, going goal for goal, the girls were looking to capitalise on the pressure they had built throughout the early stages of the match, and that they did, taking the match 18-16, earning them the week off! NSNA 7 Gold had a tough assignment coming up against Monte 51. The girls worked hard and looked to build on the skills they have developed, unfortunately they went down 4-19, but they have a 2nd chance this weekend to still make it through to the Grand Final. Our NSNA 7 Blue team showed huge improvement in last week’s Semi Final coming up against Monte 45 (who last week beat them 4-47), however lost this Semi Final 11-23. They showed great composure when working the ball down the court and now take on a strong Loreto team this weekend in order to make the Grand Final.

The Netball Presentation Dinner will be held on Thursday 13 September at the Norths Leagues Club (6.00pm start). This evening is to celebrate the Netball season for both the ISA and NSNA competitions. Tickets are $55 per person (children under 11 are $25). Students are to wear their full Winter school uniform, with parents and guests to wear smart casual. Tickets can be bought here.

Rugby

On Saturday the Redlands 1st XV travelled to Oakhill College to compete in the Grand Final against the Chevalier 1st XV. There was some nervous tension in and around the Redlands team as they warmed up as Chevalier had beaten them convincingly in the regular season, and all week we had talked as a squad about the need to be accountable and aim up as an entire group. The team walked through an incredible tunnel made up of Secondary and Junior Students and also an amazing collection of staff and parents. The first half could be summed up in one word. Brutal. Both teams were driving into each other on defence with each team refusing to give away cheap metres. Our backs were executing our game plan perfectly with subtle kicks behind the defence heaping the pressure on the opposition. Chevalier scored first, with quick hands they were able to get outside of our defence, scoring a try in the corner. Redlands immediately answered back, pouring pressure on a tiring opposition, quick hands from our backs and some lovely structure from our forwards meant a well worked try. Scores tied at 5-5. Redlands fought hard but there was possession against us and eventually our line was cracked by a strong run by the Chevalier lock. 12-5 to Chevalier.

Immediately after half time we started to build, gaining metres through well placed kicks. Redlands looked set to score but a well-timed tackle from Chev forced the ball loose and their fullback streaked away with nothing in front of him except the try line. As has been the standard for the whole season Redlands wouldn’t let in an easy try and the fullback was dragged down short of the line. Chev was then firmly set in our half, hammering our line with one out forward carries. A 50/50 penalty went against us and the Chevalier Captain opted for the kick at goals, his forwards exhausted from their efforts. Chevalier 15-5. Redlands needed to lift and needed something to spark a line break. A quick kick into space, a mistake by their fullback and we were in for a try. Chevalier 15-10.

Redlands were exhausted, defending just off instinct and heart as Chevalier continued to smash our line. The opposition did not make mistakes, they kept the ball and waited for the line breaks. Eventually our line was cracked and Redlands could not get possession away from the opposition, instead putting their bodies on the line time and time again in defence. The weight of possession was too much and Chevalier closed the match out with a try under the posts by their hooker. Final score 27-10 Chevalier.

Redlands were so much closer than the score line suggested. The efforts of the entire squad cannot be faulted, there were players who needed to be helped off the field after the match, absolutely drained by their efforts in defence. This loss does not take away from the significance of this season. To be in the 1st XV Grand Final in our first year back in Division 2 is a testament to the efforts of this wonderful squad and something to be cherished and carried into the 2019 season. To see the crowd and to hear the support from the side lines, the cheers of ‘Redlands’ throughout the match just goes to show how far we have come.

Swimming

Congratulations to Olivia Donoghue (Yr 9) who competed in the 2018 Club Swimming State Championships over the weekend. Olivia swam in the 100m and 50m Freestyle, just missing out on PBs in both events. Liv is now looking to qualify for Nationals!

Junior Sport

IPSHA Sports

Our IPSHA sport season has now finished. Before school training for Winter sports has also now concluded (except for Netball which continues on until Semis and Finals in the NSNA competition). Our team awards for the Winter season will be presented on Monday 16 September at Junior School Assembly.

Wednesday Summer Sports Beginning 12 September

Our basketballers are starting to kick off their pre-season training and coaches are in Dunnet Hall each Monday, Wednesday and Friday to put the students through an individual skills and fitness session. It’s great to start the school day with a workout and sessions are available for players in both the mixed and girls programs.

NSNA Netball

Four of our five finals Netball teams made it through last week’s preliminary finals matches. All four have progressed to elimination matches this weekend and are working hard to make it to the big dance by winning matches this Friday. Redlands 11 won in a nail-biting finish – the winning goal passing through as the hooter went in a wonderful come-from-behind victory. It’s been a welcome return to finals play for so many of our teams and it’s been great to see the team and school spirit running high on Friday night at Willoughby.

NSW Snowsports Championships

Twelve Redlands Junior School students have qualified for the Australian Snowsports Championships after great performances at the State titles last week. Julianna Harrington, Avie Keller, Julius Keller, Gianmarco Pradel, Liam McFarlane, Mia McFarlane, Felicity Schlederer, Seb Speziali and Daisy Thomas will all be representing Redlands and NSW as they vie for National Championships in Division 4 and 5 Alpine, Skier Cross and Moguls.

HICES Athletics

Redlands played host to the HICES Athletics Championships last Tuesday and put on a fantastic display both on and off the track. Massive thanks to our student helpers who were magnificent representatives of our school through their willing helpfulness and cheerful assistance throughout the day. The 60 strong Redlands team also showed on the track that they were a force to be reckoned with leading in the points tally for much of the day – falling agonisingly short to a very powerful Central Coast Grammar Athletics team. Redlands showed off a full range of blue ribbons and big smiles – many of our athletes certain to make the HICES team for the upcoming CIS Athletics Carnival. The HICES team is expected to be named by Friday. Check with the Sports department for updates.

Photos

We love photos and showing off your great action shots from sports fixtures on Saturday. If anyone has any pics or takes any in the future, I love to use them to showcase our current teams and past teams on the rolling display in Dunnet Hall. Please send me the pics, or a link or even pop them in on a USB (it will be returned) to the Sports Office or Adrian Carter.

Music Awards Dinner

Last Friday evening, the Music Department hosted the annual Music Awards Dinner at the Manly Golf Course for 230 Redlands students, staff and parents. This event is designed as a celebration of student achievement in the Cocurricular Ensemble program, presenting students with a variety of awards across all Year Groups. In Yrs 8-11, these awards are presented to students for individual contribution in the areas of Service, Dedication and Leadership and Excellence to the Redlands Music program. All Yr 7 students received Certificates of Participation and Yr 12 students received a Graduates Portfolio acknowledging their many years of service to the Music program during their time at Redlands.

Thanks to Music staff who prepared student performances, conducted various ensembles and played alongside music groups across Yrs 7-12. The integration of Yr 7 students performing alongside Yr 12 students is such an important dimension of the Music Ensemble environment. Repertoire presented included music from the Small Ensemble program this term (Weeks 1-6) and we would like to acknowledge the overseeing roles of our MIC of Ensembles, Mrs Hilary Luck (MIC Bands), Mr Benjamin Castelli (MIC Small Ensembles) and Mr Michael Warby (MIC Strings) who managed these ensembles. It is wonderful to observe rich and varied performance contexts emerging from these areas within the Music program. We would also like to thank our special guests Ms Sarah McGarry, who presented students with their 2018 Music Awards, and Head of Ballet and Dance, Mrs Karen Martin, who joined us for this evening of celebration.

The Music Department would like to thank our comperes for the evening, Music Captains, Stella Everett (Choir), Marvin Ma (Bands), James Nemec (Small Ensembles), Michelle Li (Strings), Ms Pip Tame for her logistical organisation, and the Friends of Music Committee led by Ms Felicity Gates for all their work in supporting this event.
