Music

We’re off and music-making!

Hundreds of private lessons launched across P-12 this week alongside new Rock Bands and Musicianship classes. Enthusiasm was matched by tutors, teachers and students alike!  It has been a joy to hear music ringing out again across the school, with all our mitigations in place to ensure it can do so as safely as possible.

Curriculum classes are also in full swing also with Junior Campus Curriculum Ensembles now launched in support of our other class learning goals. Yr 2 students were very excited to be allocated their string instruments (Violins & Celli) this week. (Parents/carers of Yr 2 – please ensure you have returned the instrument loan permission online by Monday in order for students to receive their instrument to take home). Yr 4 and Yr 5 students will have their Instrumental Program instruments assigned very soon. Ms Moses will communicate further information shortly.

Extra-Curricular Lessons

It’s not too late to sign up for private tuition, and though fast filling, many of our tutors have some vacancies left in their lesson rotations. To learn more about the instruments we offer, please see the Music page on Pulse.

DUTY OF CARE

A Reminder to parents/carers that for all morning ensembles, the duty of care for your child remains with you until just 10 minutes before the ensemble is scheduled to commence. Please do not leave your child without supervision before this time.

Please also help us keep our records up to date by promptly emailing the Music Office when there is likely to be an absence, or if you would like to discontinue with an activity.

Learning Snapshot

This week’s learning snapshot is from Ms Stephanie McInnes’ Yr 1 Instrumental lesson – where students enjoyed playing “If you’re happy and you know it”.  This image is nicely reciprocated with an image of Mr Joseph Montz’ Yr 7 students demonstrating their aural understanding on the xylophone as they launch into their Australian Rock Music unit.

In the Prep Music Room, a new statement of our learning intention adorns the wall. Thank you Mrs Sue Anderson and Ms Dimi Walker for taking such care to create thoughtful learning spaces.

Friends of Music Meeting – 24 February 2022

Parents and Community Members are warmly invited to jump on a Zoom session for our ‘Friends of Music’ launch for 2022 via Zoom at 7pm.  Our mantra for the year is ‘just give what’s in your hand’.  There are wonderful things ahead, and we look forward to creating exciting moments for us all to share within Redlands’ Music experiences throughout 2022.

Events

These are listed on Pulse and will be updated periodically to reflect the year ahead.

Advanced Ensemble Auditions – JUNIOR

Audition forms for Junior Chamber Ensemble and Junior Concert Band can be found on Pulse. These auditions will take place in Week 3 – please read the audition form for further details. Auditions for Junior Voices will be conducted later in Term 1.

Advanced Ensemble Auditions – SENIOR

Another round of Advanced Senior Ensemble auditions will be facilitated via video upload to the ‘Auditions’ page on iLearn in the week ahead. The closing date for auditions has been extended to 5pm on Friday 18th February for this round.  Students should prepare a video of a solo piece (2 minutes excerpt maximum) on their instrument, and some technical work to demonstrate their readiness for the rigour of the Advanced Ensembles.

Questions?

Though our department is experiencing a high volume of enquiries as our programs are set on their course for the year ahead, you can rest assured that our administrators are working hard to launch all the facets of Redlands Music for 2022, and we thank you for your patience. Please do continue to reach out if you have any questions at all, and we will be delighted to assist you or to point you in the right direction.

Looking forward to a wonderful year,
