Year 10

Career Avenues Profiling and Yr 10 Career Interviews

Last week, Yr 10 completed the thorough Careers Profiling that took place on Friday in Redlands Hall.  Students seemed to enjoy the variety of questions asked and there was much discussion around possible careers that may arise from the assessment.

Students will be emailed their Career Avenues Profile reports on Thursday this week. Parents should take time to read and discuss the reports with their child. The purpose of the Career Avenues profiling is to help and support career exploration in Yr 10 prior to making subject choices for Years 11 and 12.  The email from Career Avenues will also include instructions on how to book the interview with a Career Avenues Counsellor. Students will attend these interviews during school time in a Library meeting room with the Counsellor via Zoom. They should share their zoom link with parents/carers to join the session.

Please contact careers@redlands.nsw.edu.au with any issues or concerns in this process.

Safer Internet Day 8 February

This week, Yr 10 were reminded of how we all need to #Play it Safe and Fair Online. Students had time to check on their online image and discuss what steps they might need to take to stay safe online. Students were also provided support for setting up their email signatures to communicate with their teachers and other staff at Redlands. The eSafety Commissioner has printed recent research on the need for digital parenting needing to evolve as their children grow. Most students have had negative online experiences and the most common action from children is to tell their parents. Parents are encouraged to stay abreast of recent research and to know how to report negative online experiences to the eSafety Commissioner if and when something happens. See Mind the Gap: Parental awareness of children’s exposure to risks online.

Uniform Reminders

Thank you for supporting your children in wearing their uniform appropriately as we begin a new school year. We do have a whole school approach at Redlands and adults in all areas of the school may speak with students about their uniform. Shared expectations across the school and at home supports consistency and understanding for our students and allows us to focus on learning in the classroom and connections in the playground.  We focus on our uniform for the following reasons:

  • Uniform creates a sense of school identify, pride and respect
  • Uniform supports cohesion through a developed sense of equality
  • Students are able to identify fellow ‘team’ members promoting a shared sense of belonging
  • Uniform prepares students for life beyond school (workplace dress codes, job interviews etc.)
  • Uniform creates a sense of professionalism and encourages an affinity for learning
  • A uniform policy contributes to a consistent, whole school approach to establish clarity around uniform expectations and equity amongst students.

Redlands Running Academy

If your teenager(s) has an interest in running and would like to build fitness for the Redlands XC Carnival at the end of the term, there will be a Wednesday morning running group called the ‘Redlands Running Academy’ for selected students which will meet every Wednesday morning at 6.20am in the Senior Campus Undercroft for a continuous half hour run, returning to school by 7.15am. Further details on submitting an expression of interest and requirements will be posted in the Yr 10 Pastoral iLearn page.
