Junior Sport

Junior Sport

Students, both new and returning, are congratulated for both their enthusiasm and their diligence in following the numerous tasks required of them in these last two weeks, in particular during our Representative Sport Trials and on our first Wednesday Sport Day which we conducted for nearly all our sports under wet conditions. With Round 1 of Summer Sport upon us this Saturday it is an exciting time for all involved. Draws are online, the first of many optional skills session’s trainings have been well attended, the draw has been uploaded, uniforms have been purchased so we are all ready to go. Redland’s students are expected to be at the venue 30min before the start time listed for adequate warm up and instructions.

From a communication point of view, families have received a number of emails from Junior Sport this year. All live links for registration, confirmation of Winter Sport, sign up documents are all available on the Junior School Sport pages on Redlands Pulse. A video has been produced to show you how to navigate through Pulse. You can view this short video here so please make it part of your routine to regularly check this site for updates and information.

As outlined last week, the draw (Saturday morning matches) for coaches, parents and staff will be ‘live’ in nature and will be available via this link which allows you to filter the draw by sport and even team. Sport draws and changes are never emailed to parents and due to changes, that may come through please do not print out. When changes to times and or grounds come through from host schools during the week these will automatically update this draw on your device. I have also included the addresses of the venues within the host school to save time and stress once you arrive at a venue with 25 playing fields and you have to find Field 1b. Please spend some time navigating and saving this document on your phone or device

Representative Sport Student Absence

From this Saturday onwards, if students are absent on match day, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.

Representative Sport Team Movement

In regards to Representative Sport the aim is to make the process more transparent for all parties as unexplained team movements sometimes cause unnecessary stress. At Redlands our teams are ‘fluid’, meaning teams may change from week to week depending on 3 main criteria:

ABILITY             in direct comparison to other students across the sport

ATTENDANCE   any student who misses 2 games in a season unrelated to sickness may be moved

ATTITUDE         this is based on behaviour at trainings, on game day and not limited to the sporting arena

Winter Sport Selection

As per the email sent to all families last week despite not having commenced Round 1 of Summer Sport the association that we belong to (IPSHA) will shortly require our numbers and team submissions for the 2022 Winter Sport Season that commences. We require ALL parents to complete this registration form for your child so we can ensure all Junior School students have been allocated to a sport for Wednesday Sport for Winter. Due date is Friday 11 Feb to secure your first preference.

By completing the form you are submitting your child’s preferences for their Winter Sport for Term 2 2022. There are a variety of options available to all students from Year 3 to Year 6 in representative sport or non-representative sport.

In summary you can do either of the following;

(1) Choose a Non-Representative Sport where your child only has a commitment in school hours being Wednesday Sport (1:30pm to 3:20pm) with no Saturday involvement.

(2) Choose a Representative Sport where your child has a commitment on both Wednesday (training during school hours) and Saturday (competitive matches against other schools around Sydney)

Winter Representative Sport has a Saturday morning commitment to it with matches taking place Saturday morning (an hour commitment anywhere between 7.30am and finishing by 11.30am at the latest). Please keep this mind as you complete this form. Winter sport for both Rep and Non-Rep commences Term 1, Week 8  (Wednesday 17 March) and for most sport runs for 12  weeks over Terms 2 and 3.This process of Winter Sport Selection via Google Forms is the only method of registration.

To assist you in your  selection and for more information relating to each sport, the costs, involvements and commitment please refer to Redlands Pulse- Junior School- Winter Sport.
