Year 11

Year 11 Study Skills

On Wednesday, all of Year 11 met with the Dean of HSC Ms Lucy Benjamin and the Year Advisor to work on study skills that could be used when students have study periods or to assist with after-school study.
This will assist Year 11 with their time management and organisation, along with preparation for upcoming assessments and exams.

Some of the tips from the Study Skills session with Year 11 include:

  • When setting aside time in a study timetable, avoid writing ‘Study Period’ or ‘Do some revision’: it’s too vague!
  • Consider what you need to work on: what subjects do you feel you have more gaps in? What assessments are coming up?
  • Review your study timetable every fortnight: update it according to what’s coming up and what you’ve been learning in class.
  • If you need some help, just come and ask! Communicate in person with your teachers.
  • Wellbeing is paramount – allow yourself to have a break. Go for a run, walk the dog, meditate and remove yourself from technology for a period of time to reset and refresh prior to study.

Ideas for Study Periods and after school revision:

  • Prepare for assessment tasks
  • Revise key terminology – create a quiz for someone else and have them write one for you, for example
  • Talk through difficult concepts that you might need to look at again – find someone who understood them
  • Complete past HSC papers or HSC questions
  • Make Flashcards
  • Take an online quiz
  • Talk with your teachers if you need to
  • Don’t wait until assessment tasks are set!
