Community Update
School archives are an essential and important component of the Community Engagement team’s function. The collection and preservation of our legally, intellectually, culturally and historically important records and artefacts functions as the memory vault for Redlands staff, students, families, friends and associates, past and present.
Information and content from our Archives are used for a wide range of purposes by the School and its community, including teaching, legal purposes, building projects, development and alumni events and school publications. Examples of records and items held in the collection include trophies, uniforms, student work books, official correspondence, programs, school photos, architectural plans, prize books, master plans, school magazines and publications, student enrolment registers and prize lists.
Thanks to the donations made by our alumni, members of staff and the wider Redlands community, our Archives are fortunate to have a rich and diverse collection of material which comprehensively documents the history of the School.
As Redlands continues to digitise and future-proof the School’s archives, we welcome donations of items relating to the School, including more contemporary items as these will eventually become tomorrow’s history. Please note that space is limited and any items accepted for donation are on the condition of appraisal of the Archivist.
Tomorrow, Friday 26 November, we invite our Secondary School students to bring their used textbooks into School where they can be sold or donated. Students will also be able to submit order forms to buy current edition textbooks for 2022. A volunteer team of parents from the RPFA will be set up at the Gerard St entrance after school tomorrow to assist students with collection and ordering. Students can collect their Second Hand Text Book orders from the same spot on Monday, 29 November prior to the start of school.
The Second Hand Text Book Sale affirms Redlands standing commitment to sustainably managing our resources whilst engaging our students and the wider community in this endeavour. This sale not only reduces paper waste, it also keeps the cost of textbooks down for our families and provides charitable organisations with additional resources for distribution to communities that will continue to benefit from them. Click here for more information and book lists.
Please note that previous textbook editions that are no longer used at Redlands will be donated to other communities who will welcome and use them. Transactions will be recorded within your school accounts next year and cash cannot be accepted.
It was a pleasure to attend the recent Redlanders Alumni Association Annual General Meeting where a number of new committee members joined this active and engaged leadership group. With the end of another School year approaching the Redlands Parents and Friends Association continue to actively bring our various groups together. A number of social events still remain in the calendar and these can be found here.
My thanks to all of the important groups of committed and generous volunteer members for their assistance and support through 2021. In particular Michele Tea, outgoing President of the RPFA, Grahame Petersen, Chair of the Foundation Advisory Committee and Jennifer Farrell, President of the Redlanders Alumni Association, thank you for your leadership and guidance in another challenging year for community engagement.
I have been overwhelmed by the warmth and generosity of our community in my first year at Redlands and look forward to meeting more of our parents and carers through 2022, in the hope that we can deliver our traditional event calendar that commences early in Term 1 with Twilight in the Garden.
I remain grateful for the continued guidance and support our community provides and, as ever, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Community Engagement team should you have any feedback, suggestions or questions.
The Community Engagement team wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful break with your family over the festive season and Summer holidays.
Keep well and stay safe.
