In the absence of reunions and face-to-face events we were delighted to host last Thursday a topical webinar on Sustainability & ESG Investing (Environmental-Social-Governance) for our Alumni community.

This was a great opportunity to hear from expert fellow Redlanders working in this field and we would like to thank them for volunteering their time.

  • Chris Nunn, Class of 1994 & School Captain
AMP Capital Real Estate, Head of Platform Operations and ESG Investing
  • Phil Williams, Class of 2000
ERM: Environmental Resource Management, Partner, Sustainability & Climate Change
  • Jeff Brown, Class of 2016 & School Captain
UBS Asset Management, Global Fixed Income Analyst

Sustainability is a focus that Redlands pursue with rigorous and disciplined intent, across our curriculum, our operations, our resources and our community.

Parents and carers may be interested to know that Redlands has a 61kWp solar panel system on Junior Campus roof that generates 82.4Mwh. The School estimates that the system will produce approximately 70,000 kW hours per annum, whilst reducing our Greenhouse Gas emissions by approximately 80,000 kg of Carbon Dioxide per annum. This equates to permanently removing 65 small cars from the road or enough energy to power 20 households per year. Lights on all three campuses have been upgraded to efficient LED lights with light sensors, and occupancy sensors are fitted in new buildings to automate the control of lighting.

The Redlands Learning Hub on the Senior Campus incorporates many ESG initiatives; for example

  • Rainwater reuse for part landscape irrigation
  • Natural cross and mixed mode ventilation
  • Natural lighting including skylights and energy efficient lighting
  • Passive sun shading
  • Night time purging

Redlands families who are interested to visit the Redlands Learning Hub will have the opportunity next year, once COVID restrictions for external visitors have been relaxed.

In the meantime, we invite you to view the video showcasing this wonderful development kindly supported by many members of our community.
