Year 11

Pastoral Care

All Yr 11s completed an anonymous Behaviour Awareness Survey about the Redlands school climate. The survey gives students an opportunity to provide feedback on our school environment and to acknowledge students who contribute positively to Redlands. It also aims to identify students who may be giving other students a “hard time” and to identify students who are on the receiving end of “undesirable and unwanted behaviour”.

Yr 11 Yearly Examination Blocks

For the next two weeks, our boys and girls will sit their first examination blocks at the North Sydney Leagues Club, 12 Abbott Street, Cammeray. All the information with regards to this examination was emailed to students and parents on Thursday 9 August. If a student is unable to attend his/her scheduled examination, please email the Secondary School Absence team no later than 8.45 am in the morning and copy me in as well.

It is vital that all students make the most of free time by going through their examination notifications, iLearn pages and study notes. In addition, please ask your chid to check their examination timetable carefully and ensure prompt arrival. As parents, you can encourage your child to try and maintain a healthy diet, get sufficient sleep and take some regular exercise as this will enhance their learning and their energy. Best wishes for these examinations!

Mock Trial

The Yr 11 Mock Trial team had a convincing win last Wednesday evening when they defeated Loretto Kirribilli in a tightly fought trial regarding an arson attack on a school. Isabel Binnekamp was the defendant, where she was accused of setting light to her former school due to a grudge she held from being expelled. Her friend, Mackenzie Lofts, was her alibi at the time of the fire as they were sitting in McDonalds eating their chocolate sundaes. Under cross examination both witnesses answered some very difficult questions exceptionally well. The Magistrate commented on their ability and rewarded them both with full marks for this part of the trial. The defendant was represented by Barristers Lachlan van der Pluijm and Lindsay McNeil who were required to cross examine the arresting police officer and a cranky neighbour who allegedly witnessed the fire. Their cross examinations were thorough and professional. They were admirably instructed by their solicitor, Chloe Woodward, and assisted by the Court Officer, Perri Carmichael. The team have done extraordinarily well to get this far in the competition and are now down to the last 16 schools in NSW. They will shortly be given their new case and new opponents.

Fundraising Project for Kids Need Books

Last Friday, Lindsay McNeil, Jasmine Chubb, Alice MacDonald and Sienna Kerr were thrilled to report their great success in supporting the charity organisation Kids Need Books. In almost two terms, the team has collected nearly 900 children’s books from Junior School. These books will be shipped to Vietnam very shortly. Ms Hai, the founder of Kids Need Books, has expressed her gratitude for the efforts from the four girls, as well as the generosity of our school community.

Drought Relief Fundraiser

Today we held a fundraising sausage sizzle and cake stall to raise funds for drought Relief in NSW. This initiative was led by Zoe Kimber and Freddie McKewen with the support of many Yr 11 students. There was also some great line-dancing in the Quad to get in the country mood. If you would like to contribute, please visit Rural Aid/Buy a Bale.
