Music Note Day

We are fortunate at Redlands to have an extraordinary team of over 30 Music specialists from P-12 who work tirelessly in service of musical opportunities for our students. Whether starting out with their first violin lessons or finalising their Yr 12 HSC and IB coursework, our students have some of the finest Musician-Educators in the country working in their corner. This fact has never been more apparent than in the current climate, as our senior-most students wrap up their Redlands Music learning knowing a great host are cheering, coaching, and working behind the scenes to support them.

Yr 12

Our Yr 12 cohort continue to model extraordinary resilience, with the latest NESA advice providing insight as to how we now map the final aspects of the Yr 12 coursework. Teachers and students will work closely together in the coming days and weeks to ensure our best foot is forward for these final tasks. We wish our Senior Students all the best with their Trial examinations this coming week.

Welcome & Thanks

This week we welcome James Olds to the permanent role of Senior Campus Music Administrator, while we extend our thanks to Zoe Sun who has served our team and community well these past few months. Alongside Jacqueline McGlade in the Junior Campus Music Office, James looks forward to assisting our community with any Music-related needs that arise on the Senior Campus.

Learning Music from Home

As our home-learning continues, so do the routines and patterns that are now in place. All extracurricular and cocurricular Music Lessons, Classes and Ensembles continue in the same manner for the week ahead.

With varied community preferences regarding early morning Zoom sessions, the default for our weekly rehearsal provisions at this time remains through the upload/download of resources and activities from the respective learning platforms (Seesaw, Google Classroom and iLearn), and not necessarily through a weekly Zoom session. Ensemble resources are released each week in time for the regularly timetabled session. Conductors communicate directly with ensembles should they wish for a Zoom session be scheduled in support of the weekly resource upload. We commend our students for the way that they are engaging with this altered format.

Redlands Composition Competition – Final Call!

The Redlands Composition Competition is accepting submissions to the Music Department Auditions iLearn page until TOMORROW (13th August 2021). All the best!

Music Awards 2021

Though the current situation has dampened plans for our annual Friends of Music ‘Music Awards Dinner’ this month, the Music Department will be announcing the Award Recipients for the four prizes in Years 8-11 next week in Note Day!  Students have been nominated for their involvement (pre-lockdown) honouring four Award categories : Dedication, Leadership, Excellence & Service. We look forward to sharing the winners with you in Note Day next week.

Other Date Changes

Please keep your eye on the Music Events dates on Pulse in case of adjustments in the term ahead, in light of our evolving context.

AMEB Exams

Plans for our forthcoming examination sessions remain a work in progress, though we can confirm that we have had productive conversations with the AMEB this week, and clarity is on its way. It has been confirmed that all face-to-face examinations will now be via Video upload, with filming dates to be advised for later in the year. We will be emailing respective families directly in the coming week. Please contact Jacqueline McGlade if you have further questions in the meantime.
