JUNIOR SCHOOL UPCOMING EVENTS
Mother’s Day Coffee Club – Take 2!
After the disappointment of the late cancellation of our Mother’s Day Breakfast earlier this term, we are very pleased to share that we will host a Mother’s Day Celebration now on the last morning of this term, next Friday 18 June.
As part of our COVID plan, it is necessary for all attendees to book via the link on the flyer and we look forward to celebrating this morning with our community.
IPSHA Teacher Librarians Meeting
Last week, we were delighted to welcome teacher librarians from across NSW independent schools; many in person but as is now a new norm, many from across regional schools via a live link.
Held in our wonderful Junior School Arnold Library, a space I often feel is the heart of the Junior School, the afternoon allowed for engaging teacher presentations on research in the profession as well as rich discussion on children’s literature. Visitors also enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Lucy Hill Library in the Prep School, another inspiring learning space in our School which is renowned in school circles as one of the best dedicated library spaces for this age group.
Thank you to Mrs Wiebe for her organisation of the afternoon and her role on the wider IPSHA Librarians committee.
International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) 2021
For over 30 years, International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), have taken place in schools throughout Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, the Pacific region and South Africa. ICAS is an initiative of Educational Assessment Australia (EAA), a not for profit organisation owned by the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
At Redlands, it is optional for Junior School students to sit these tests in Term 3. Assessments occur during class time within a supervised area of the Junior School. No particular preparation is required and all students receive a certificate and an individual student report indicating which questions they answered correctly, their total score as well as their average compared with the rest of the students in the State.
A more detailed letter and registration details can be found here on Redlands Pulse and any questions should be directed to the Dean of Administration, Ms Atkins.
Yr 6 Kidpreneur Training Day
Next Thursday, we are looking forward to our Yr 6 students enjoying an immersive day program in entrepreneurship to amplify their creativity and start developing problem solving, teamwork, design thinking and pitching skills.
This was originally planned for last year but had to be postponed and the session will be run by Entropolis, who have been involved in setting up whole school entrepreneurial programs in schools, and we have already organised a similar day for Yr 5 at the start of Term 3 as a new initiative.
Semester One Reports
Student reports for Semester One are currently being finalised by teachers and I look forward to reviewing them too. For new families, in particular, these reports will be uploaded to Redlands Pulse for your private access during the first week of the holidays.
Back copies of your son or daughter’s reports are also available via Redlands Pulse. To access the reports, parents will need their Redlands Pulse user name and password. Parents requiring assistance re user name or password should email pulse@redlands.nsw.edu.au as soon as possible.
Do take some time over the break to read through it with your child and acknowledge and celebrate areas of growth and progress. As students return for Term 3, their class teachers will also spend time with your child looking at aspects of goal setting for the second semester, which they will then share with you at the Student-Led Conferences in Week 4 of next term.
Shell Coles Petrol Station
We have been alerted to the highly dangerous practice of a couple of Redlands students being dropped off or picked up by parents at the Shell Coles petrol station at the junction of Murdoch St and Military Rd
Junior School students have regularly been reminded that they are not permitted to go to the station after school or in between the end of the day and any after school activities, particularly Ballet and Dance. Please reinforce this message to your child if this is something that you are aware of.
Reminder: Tuesday Clubs
Please be reminder that the Tuesday Semester One clubs have finished this term and do not take place in the last week of term. This includes Debating and Chess (Friday).
