This Week’s Debate

As you know, this Friday we have Jeans for Genes day. I am sure you will support this cause and be out in your best denim. Please remember to bring in your full school uniform for the Debating in the evening. The bus will leave the Adams Centre for Monte at 3.45pm with Ms Mountain accompanying you. All the best for the debates and make sure you sign off with Ms Mountain before leaving the venue on the night. Parents have been emailed details about the venue. More information about the SDN competition can be found here. You should also read the about Debating and the Debating Expectations sections if you are new to Debating this term.

Debating Club

Debating Club continues to run on Wednesday afternoons and is a one hour commitment each week. More information about Debating Club is here.

Mock Trial

The Yr 11 Mock Trial team had a convincing win on Wednesday night, by 50 points, against St Ives High School in the first elimination round. This means they are undefeated and now progress through to the last 32 NSW schools. The case was a criminal trial of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, where we presented evidence as the Prosecution, that the victim (Isabel Binnekamp) had been assaulted by her husband. The police officer in the case (Mackenzie Lofts) also gave evidence as to what happened on that fateful day. Our case was opened by Lachlan van der Pluijm, who was the first barrister, and closed by Lindsay McNeil, the second barrister. They were instructed by their quick-thinking solicitor, Chloe Woodward. Perri Carmichael controlled the court and assisted the Magistrate during the trial. The team will very shortly be preparing their next trial which will be released by NSW Law Society imminently. Congratulations to Ms Rebecca Mountain and the team!
