AFL
On a wet and windy Thursday 6 May, 130 boys turned up to Gore Hill Oval along with similar numbers of girls at Bankstown to trial for the NSWCIS 15 years and under AFL teams. Redlands had five boys and one girl trial: Isaac Brooks (Yr 9), Henry Charles (Yr 9), Flynn Kieran (Yr 9), Oliver Noakes (Yr 10), Charlie Parker (Yr 9) and Eva Osborn (Yr 9). The standard of play was high despite the conditions, and all Redlands students played well in front of the selectors across a number of trial matches. Congratulations to Isaac, Henry and Eva for making the final play-off round of 36 and congratulations to Henry and Eva for selection in the final CIS team of 22. Best of luck to both students in the NSW AFL All Schools Championship to be played on Tuesday 25 May!
Congratulations also goes out to to Eva Osborn (Yr 9) on making the Girls NSWCIS 15 Years and under AFL team who will compete in the NSW AFL All Schools Championship on Monday 24 May.
Basketball
Congratulations to Emilie Bessell and Meera Coburn who represented the ISA at the NSWCIS Basketball Tournament last Thursday 6 May. The ISA team were undefeated on the day, winning all five games they played. Both Emilie and Meera were an integral part of the team’s success and have been included into the 16 players who were selected into the CIS squad, with the final team to be named after a training session next week.
Yola Reinecke was in Mackay last week at the U20 Australian National Championships representing NSW. Her team finished 4th in the tournament, losing the bronze medal game to a very strong Queensland team. A fantastic achievement, congratulations Yola.
Fitness Centre
With the large numbers of students consistently attending our morning sessions in the Fitness Centre, there will be an adjustment to the programming across Monday to Friday.
From next week the Monday morning session will be a Girls Only Session. This is a way to encourage all of our female athletes to attend a session specifically designed for their selected Winter Rep. Sports. The session will run off the normal time with the students arriving at the session at 6:30am.
This is a great initiative and I encourage all of our female athletes to get behind the session and attend in huge numbers.
Sessions for the rest of the week, Tuesday – Friday will continue as mixed age groups and students.
Football
Many games in Round 2 of the ISA Season were washed out due to the rain. However, there were a few teams that were still able to play including the 2nd Boys who had a great game, even though they went down 3-0 to St Patrick’s 3rd Boys. The 16A Boys played against St Patrick’s 16B and despite holding a 1-0 lead until the final minutes, St Patrick’s managed to score two quick goals at the end of the game, finishing with a 2-1 loss to the Redlands 16A team. The 13B Boys played against Oakhill 13D and had a great game, dominating possession for the match and finishing with a 7-0 win. The Inter A Girls also had the opportunity to play on Saturday against the Barker Inter B team, having a great team win and finishing with an 11-0 victory.
A reminder the details for the games in Round 3 are now available on Redlands Pulse under the “Redlands Rhino (FIXTURES)”. The 2nd Girls game still went ahead at Barker College where they had a fantastic game, finishing with an 8-1 win over the Barker 2nd Girls. In Round 3 all teams will be travelling via bus to venues outside of Sydney. A reminder that all parents will need to complete the online permissions on engage for the bus this Saturday.
Congratulations to Sebastien Griffith on his selection into the NSWCIS Open Boys Hockey team. Seb will compete at the NSWCIS Hockey Championships in Week 5, good luck Seb.
Netball
It was a very busy day at NBISC on Saturday with some late restrictions meaning no spectators. This didn’t impact the spirits of the teams, with some great matches across the morning. The 1st VII continued their winning ways with a strong display against St Pauls Grammar School, our 2nds had a very close match against St Andrews with the game going back and forth in the final quarter, luck falling Redlands way with a 3 point win in the end.
A reminder to all that the Redlands Rhino has the up to date fixtures for this weekend, there have also been some changes to the draw with Redlands Pulse – Netball having a draft draw.
Tennis
On Saturday 13 May, our ISA teams played either St Pius X or St Augustine’s. All teams played extremely well both in their doubles and their singles. It is great to see the teams working really well together with lots of talking on the court in the doubles, an important attribute to poses when playing doubles, particularly when many of our doubles pairings are new.
Spectators are asked to sign in to each venue with the venues Service NSW QR code or to follow any instructions as directed by the school convenor present. EastCourts Tennis Club have a no spectators inside the venue policy this week. However, spectators are allowed to watch from the carpark/outside the venue. Please note, only some courts will have good viewing access from this vantage point.
Just a reminder, please email Eliza Peirce directly regarding injury/illness that eliminates you from a training session. Unexplained absences will result in a lunch time detention. If you are rostered to play on Saturday and fall ill on Friday, please notify Eliza Peirce no later than 12.00pm on Friday to ensure a substitute can be found.
Wet weather notifications can be found on twitter @RedlandsSport, if you cannot find wet weather information, please turn up to your venue regardless, this applies to training and matches.
Waterpolo
Our Senior Waterpolo teams are heading into the back end of their season, with only four weeks to go. The teams have been improving each week and they are just in reach of the Finals. Our Inter teams are also playing some good waterpolo, with some close matches in the last few weeks.
The final weeks of the Senior draw are now available on Redlands Pulse – Water Polo
