Market Day – Message from Ms Vyvian Kang
Congratulations to all students on a successful Market Day and thank you to all the effort and support put in from every student, family and staff member across the School.
Students made a total ‘Net Profit’ of $2002, which will be donated to the Yothu Yindi Foundation in Arnhem Land, prior to their visit this year. The organisation is working to achieve sustainable improvement of the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of Yolngu and other Indigenous Australians. The HSIE department collected around $1072 worth of ‘company tax’, ‘rent’ and ‘utility fees’ from each business, which will be donated to the Redlands Scholarship Fund.
The Commerce Market Day provided Yr 9 students with an opportunity to apply the content learned in the Commerce topic ‘Running a Business’ into the practical task of managing market day stalls. Students gained exposure to the four key business functions of Marketing, Operations, HR and Finance while planning and executing their own small businesses in groups. Students have applied their knowledge of promoting and selling, financial planning and risk management while selling a wide and delicious range of products from pizza and nachos to crepes and spiders.
