Chaplain
The heart of God is one of compassion and justice. So much of the pages of the bible is about God advocating for the downtrodden and calling of people who are experiencing blessing to be generous to others.
I love the story of Ruth, a young widow returning with her mother-in-law to Israel. She is childless and has no means of support. However, the laws of Israel ensured that farmers only harvested once leaving the leftovers available to the poor of society, a provision that enabled food for any who would go to the field to gather it in.
The pandemic has seen our Government make provision for many groups in our community while we have also seen remarkable community spirit in caring for people. However, there are more and more people in the community across greater Sydney who are having trouble providing for their families. More than ever, those of us who are experiencing blessings can be generous to others.
Anglicare is in the unique position to ensure practical support of food goods get to people in real need and we are fortunate to be able to partner with them to show care to those with little to celebrate this Christmas.
With only a week to go, our support is at an all-time low. I suspect this is due to the unusual busyness of this term. I would like to appeal to you that now is the time to act with that extraordinary Redlands spirit to fill the boxes by Friday 27 November, ready for delivery in the following week.
Please bring in goods like long-life milk/custard; tinned salmon, ham, fruit and vegetables; packaged cakes, puddings and biscuits; pasta and pasta sauces; Milo, tea, coffee and jam. Please remember these need to be non-refrigerated items. Students should deliver the goods to Tutor Groups as soon as possible.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
