Head of Sport

Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather this week, the sporting grounds at Macquarie University are closed on Saturday, and we have had to cancel our Redlands@Home Pink Sock Charity Sports Round in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia. Some sports have been able to relocate their matches to other venues and students are still encouraged to wear their pink socks to all games this weekend. (Please check Redlands Pulse to find updated match times and venues.) Students and parents are still welcome to bring baked goods to venues to share with the community and collection tins will still be made available at these locations. A BBQ lunch will be held on the Senior Campus on Monday 25 June in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia. Students are encouraged to bring money to purchase food on this day.

Please note: there will be NO Secondary School Sport training on Tuesday 26 June due to the Athletics Carnival.

Athletics

The Secondary School Athletics Carnival will be on Tuesday 26 June (Term 2, Week 9). More information regarding the Program of Events will be available on Redlands Pulse in the coming days.

Basketball

We are seeking expressions of interest to attend Basketball Skills Sessions in the July school holidays:
Monday 2 July 8-10am
Monday 9 July 8-10am

RSVP for these sessions is by Friday 22 June. Please register for you preferred session/s by contacting Kate Seebohm.

Football

Round 6 was a great round for Redlands Football with all teams playing at home. We had some very promising results across both the Girls and Boys Football programs.

Girls Football

The Junior A Girls had another convincing 5-0 win over a visiting St Spyridon team, proving their dominance in the top Junior Girls division once again. Junior B had an exciting 1-1 draw with St Spyridon, and the 2nd XI Girls played one of their best games of the season to win 3-1 over St Spyridon. The 1st XI Girls came up against Barker and unfortunately fell short in a 3-2 loss, with Barker’s final goal not reflecting the dominance our girls showed on the pitch throughout the game.

Boys Football

The majority of our Boys teams played against St Andrew’s Cathedral School for the first time this season. It was an exciting round with some great results across the board. Some dominating wins from our 1st XI, 2nd XI, 14A, 13A, and 13B boys teams. A special mention to the 14B team who came up against a strong St Pat’s team, it was an improvement on their previous game against St Pat’s.

We look forward to seeing all of our teams at home again this weekend in the final round of Redlands Sport before the school holidays.

Holiday Football Training

Thank you to the students who have registered for holiday Football training. Unfortunately, there have been limited registrations for these sessions. Therefore, we will only be holding one combined session for boys and girls on Tuesday 3 July at 9:30am-11am at Redlands House Courts.

Netball

Some great matches over the weekend with our Senior 2nd, 3rd & 5th all having great wins! Special mention to a number of our Senior 4th team who had a bye on Saturday but came out to support the Senior 3rds who had a few players battling illness all week. Our 1st VII unfortunately went down to a strong Barker outfit and will be looking to bounce this weekend against St Paul’s Grammar School. The big win over the weekend was our Inter A team, who came up against the top Barker Inter team who, four weeks ago, beat Redlands by 20 points. The team have been working on their fitness during trainings and working under pressure which has allowed them to grow and develop extremely well. This showed through the back end of this match, winning 36-29!

Our NSNA Competition is also looking strong, with a number of teams walking away with victories on Saturday. Special mention to our NSNA 7 Navy team who were regraded up a division and continued their winning streak.

Expressions of Interest Wanted

On Saturday 4 August we would like to take interested players from the Secondary School Netball program (Yrs 7 – 12) to attend the Giants vs Fever game at the ICC, Darling Harbour with the game starting at 7pm. All players are welcome to attend this game. The cost will be charged to your School account. Tickets are approximately $30 per person. All players are to make their own way to and from the venue. If your daughter(s) would like to attend this excursion, please register your daughter for this event by contacting the Director of Netball Coaching, Annie Stalley by 13 July.

Rugby

The Under 15s came close to playing the perfect game over the weekend, coming face to face with the previously undefeated Chevalier. The combinations the boys have built so far this season is a credit not only to coaches around them but also, more importantly, down to how hard and focused the boys have been training. Losing two of their strongest players in Flynn Garner and Aidan Tyrrell through the week meant that other players needed to step up in a big way. It started for the 15s directly of the kick off, putting the bigger Chev runners down with hard contacts led by George Dunne and Guy Salter. This physicality in the forwards allowed the finesse of our outside backs to start cutting the defence to shreds. Amazing runs from Gus Miller led to neat linking passes to runners in James Wells and James Malycon who themselves put our outside attackers into space. The game was completely in balance throughout the whole match, with Chev scoring and Redlands equalising, until Gus cut the outside defence apart with a beautiful run, stepping the last defender to dot the ball down. Scores levels, kick to lead the match and up steps Nick Gorner. When the ball left his foot, it never looked like missing, Redlands leading by two with less than two minutes to go. In that last chunk of match our boys were near perfect, in the way they defended and the way they communicated. Special mention to Hugh Sellar (Happy Birthday) who made two incredibly tough carries into bigger defenders. Ultimately, we held our nerve and one of the best wins I have seen in Redlands colours was completed. Well done to the Mighty 15s.

Tennis

Redlands returned from the long weekend with an impressive four from four wins against St Andrew’s College. Our 1stt team won in impressive fashion with a 7-1 victory. The 2nds had a hard day but were able to get on top and win 5-3. The 3rds were able to secure a victory 6-5. The 4ths produced another good performance and beat St Andrew’s 6-2 at Moore Park. Please check all fixtures for this weekend’s round.

Waterpolo

Congratulations to our Open Boys A and Open Girls A Waterpolo teams, who last Friday night won their Semi Finals against St Augustine’s B and Stella C respectively to progress through to the Grand Finals this Friday night. Unfortunately, our Open Boys B team went down to a strong Pittwater team in their Semi Final.
