Drama and Theatre
Gala Arts
Gala Arts will be taking place in Term 3 but in a modified format. A student meeting will be held shortly for finalists.
The event will take place using Redlands venues, with separate finals for the categories, and will be professionally filmed and edited for release in Term 4.
Although this will be different from the regular event, we hope it will nevertheless allow for a wonderful celebration of House spirit and the amazing talent in the Arts we have at Redlands, with winners being announced in Term 4.
Dates are:
Instrumental and Vocal: Saturday 19 September
Theatre, Dance and Multi-Disciplinary: Sunday 20 September
The list of finalists is available here. More information about timings and rehearsals will be distributed shortly.
Extra Subject Drama and Theatre Classes
Extra Subject Drama and Theatre Classes resume on campus this week. Extra curricular teachers will resume collection or meeting of student as per the arrangements at the start of Term 1.
Parents are to collect student as per the details below and are not to enter the School buildings.
Pick Up Arrangements
Preparatory Pick Up – Prep Acting and Prep Music Theatre
Children are to be collected from class via the Prep Reception door with staggered pick up commencing from 4.20pm for Kindy classes, 4.25pm for Yr 1 and 4.30pm for Yr 2. Staff will be available to open the door and sign children out, ensuring only authorised people are collecting each student. There will be markings on the pavement outside to help ensure families are 1.5m apart. We ask that parents please collect their children and move away from the area promptly.
Junior School Pick Up – Junior Acting, Junior Film and Junior Music Theatre
All parents are asked to collect their children from the Allister Street gate including Junior Music Theatre and Junior Film students. Please be mindful and respectful that this may take a little longer than normal but is the safest option to alleviate parents needing to come on campus. We ask that parents please collect their students and move away from the area promptly.
Please contact drama@redlands.nsw.edu.au if you have any questions.
Solo Showcase
27 and 28 July in the Drama Studio
Yr 12 IB and HSC students will be presenting their individual major works in Performance, Theatre Criticism and Design for their final examination. They will be stepping on to the stage for their solo showcase and we will invite families and friends to view footage of their major works through iLearn. We wish them all the very best as they work on these important practical components of their course.
Drama Competition
The Drama Competition will be held this term in a digital format. Students will be competing in the categories of comedy and drama with contemporary performance pieces. Further information to follow shortly about Competition entry.
Redlands News
Congratulations to Lachie Kent (Drama Captain 2015) who has recently featured in NIDA’s Ghost Lights Project. As all performance venues across the world went dark during the COVID-19 crisis, the old tradition of the ghost light was revived – leaving on a single naked bulb on a stand to ensure that an empty theatre is never left in total darkness. Some of theatre’s great characters perform iconic monologues. Untethered from their plays and plots, they have broken out. They roam the empty theatres, trying to connect once again. But being lost, they are also free… and appear in guises that might surprise as they speak their new-found truths. Lachie’s performance as Puck can be seen here, with dates and times for the full performances at 7.30pm on 6, 8 and 9 August and 11.00am on 8 and 9 August.
