Year 9
Interesting Article of the Week
This week I have attached a link to the organisation Room to Read, from which the guest speaker for International Women’s Day presented to the whole school assembly last Friday.
This organisation is involved in helping to improve literacy in children, in particular girls, and it is well worth a visit to their website to see what they have done and what they are planning to do. Yr 9 are aiming to get more involved with this organisation as the year progresses, as we are learning about inequality as part of the Pastoral Care program. Two students, Iris Buisman and Louise Colin, will be joining me Thursday evening at a dinner to meet with a graduate of the Girls Education Program in Nepal, Merina Sainju, where we hope to learn more about some of the inequality issues that girls face in their education overseas and see how we as a Redlands community can help address some of these issues.
Burn Bright
On Monday 18 March, we are delighted to invite the organisation Burn Bright to Redlands to spend the whole day with Yr 9. The girls and boys will work separately on programs specifically targeted towards their needs by Burn Bright. The boys’ program is called Ignite and focuses on strength, integrity and respect. The girls’ program is called Spark and focuses on respecting themselves and each other. The goal is to enhance emotional intelligence and empower students to build positive and healthy relationships.
SRC Announcement
We are pleased to announce the following students as the SRC leaders for 2019: Victoria Butler, Chris Clark, Aarav Kumar and Audra Olson.
Pastoral Care Program
This week students have been recognising the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence on Friday 15 March. They have been researching facts and figures on bullying and designing an anti-bullying poster.
Social Awareness Program
This week students are continuing to create a presentation regarding their chosen organisation on gender inequality.
Have a great week!
