Year 9

House Spirit Day

Last Friday afternoon, Yr 9 students took part in the House Spirit Fair, run by the Yr 12 Student Leadership Team. Activities included 3v3 Basketball, Chalk drawing, Dodgeball, Handball and Chess. Further excitement and fun was found in Lip sync battles and Just Dance. It was so wonderful to see the involvement of Yr 9 throughout the afternoon, and particularly those talented students who took centre stage to perform musically in groups, and for solos.

Yr 9 Examinations – Term 4, Week 2.

Whilst taking a moment to enjoy their holidays, students should continue on with their preparations for the Yr 9 examination block. Students will have access to their Examination Timetable by the end of the week. This will be published on Pulse, on the Yr 9 page. It is important that students use this as a guide for their planning and preparation at home. Resources have also been available through individual classes to assist in this process and students have been encouraged to liaise with their teachers over the course of the past two weeks on best practice for each subject.

Redlands My TV – Exam Jitters

Setting a schedule is vitally important. Students need to schedule everything from sleeping and eating, to studying and exercising. It is one of the best ways to manage inevitable exam stress. Students need to look after themselves when they have big demands in their life.

When it comes to productive study, sometimes less is often more. It is recommended that students hit the books in 50-minute stints, broken up by 15-minute breaks. This gives the brain, and body, a rest. Adolescents will often underestimate the amount of sleep they need. Getting enough sleep is key to successful study practices. Research shows that physical activity also has a very positive impact on mental wellbeing. Eating well is another crucial factor to maintaining concentration and staying focussed on the task ahead.

Reach Out – Top 5 Motivation Boosters

1.Work out your ‘why’: if you know the benefit of getting the task done, you’ll be more motivated to do it.

  1. Put a timer on: set a timer for 20 mins and focus solely on the task at hand. Put your phone away and tell yourself you’ll procrastinate later.
  2. Celebrate the wins: make yourself a ‘Ta-da’ list where you write down your achievements, no matter how small.
  3. Get moving: go for a short walk or do some stretches, it’ll help you get inspired.
  4. Play music: make a playlist of your fave upbeat songs and listen to them when you need an extra push.

I wish all students and families a wonderful holiday break. It is important for students to take the time to relax and unwind, ready to embark on an incredibly exciting and action-packed Term 4.
