Yr 9 Gaming Support
On 7 May 2021, an Engage notification was sent to all Yr 9 parents with additional resources for support from home around gaming and gaming addiction. When Yr 9 students were surveyed on what topics they found most important to address in regards to Cyber Safety, students reported gaming addiction to be quite a problem. While we aim to monitor game usage at school and at home, teaching students the skills to manage their time wisely and realise the impact gaming can have on their lives and development will be more beneficial for student’s social and emotional learning in the future. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s Tutor or Year Advisor for further discussion on this topic.
Yr 9 Dodgeball Competition
A huge thank you to Luke Barwise, Joseph Hooper, Liam McFarlane and Alex Tanner for their initiative and planning of the competition and helping to run these daily events last week. Congratulations to Dumolo Blue for winning the final competition round and will be enjoying a pizza lunch as a prize. Students have already started planning another competition for Term 3 and we look forward to more students getting involved and leading these opportunities.

Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, english, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.
Journalism for Justice
The Pastoral Program this term involves students choosing a topic of social injustice to research as a Tutor Group and create a piece of journalism (print or digital) to share with the cohort at the beginning of Term 3. Research is already underway across many Tutor classes and students have chosen a wide variety of topics and perspectives. It is critical for students to recognise the small actions they take each day contribute to these global issues.
This week’s year meeting highlighted two groups that have already started to look ahead to service and leadership opportunities for the cohort to continue pursuing: saving our oceans and the ongoing sexism initiative. It is incredible to hear from students and incorporate their voice as much as possible to take ownership of how we make these changes together and bring awareness to these important topics.
