Year 8
News and Achievements
- Best wishes to all Yr 8 students competing in Gala Arts. If you’re attending, keep an eye out for Sabrina Blasco (Instrumental), Helena Dracakis (Vocal), Ellyce Evans-Beard and Jacob Reiser (Theatre), and Avalon Thomas (Dance).
- Well done to Claudia Lalich who, along with her fellow Yr 9 players, will be representing Redlands at the 2019 Regional Theatresports Semi Final on Tuesday night in Week 7. Standout moments created by our Intermediate team during their heat at Barker College last week include Russian monkeys, wooden hats and finally securing 2nd place was a memorable performance as a spiritual tree rising from the dead.
Upcoming Webinar
The relationship between social media, alcohol use and parental monitoring in adolescence
Wednesday 19 June at 12.00pm, presented by Ms Anna Smout
This webinar is for parents, school staff and anyone else seeking information about the relationship between social media use and drinking, and how parents can protect against alcohol use in adolescence.
Australian teenagers spend more than three hours per day on social networking sites. Greater time spent using these sites has been linked to problem drinking in adolescence. This webinar will present information on the relationship between using social networking sites and problem drinking and will focus on how parents can intervene to protect their child from alcohol-related harms
Cyber Safety: Project Rockit
Project Rockit worked with Yr 8 last Friday delivering their Dot Com program. The workshop explored the risks and rewards of challenging bullying, building peer support in online spaces, challenging judgement and social labels and launch strategies for students to stand up for themselves and others. The workshop also addressed social factors and drivers that often spill online: standing out versus fitting in, relationship ethics, privacy and consent and celebrating diversity.
